I don’t really care for Three Houses. I’ve played every FE game and it’s one of the few that I’ve never finished, and both of my previous attempted playthroughs I got really burnt out and stopped playing at around the same point. I do sincerely want to like it and give it a fair shake though, especially with Fortune’s Weave being connected to it and heavily building off its gameplay, so I’m giving it a third chance, this time on Switch 2, on a harder difficulty, and with the DLC to see if that makes the game more fun for me.
Anyway I played through Cindered Shadows to unlock the DLC stuff, and after finishing it I’m shocked at how much I genuinely liked it. It’s really good! The new story elements like the Abyss are pretty interesting, the Ashen Wolves are very fun characters (we yes WE will ALL marry Constance this playthrough on god), and it shows Edelgard, Dimitri and Claude actually working together and being friendly with each other instead of just being rivals or enemies which I kinda wish Part 1 of the main story had more moments of. But what surprised me most of all is that the gameplay was actually really fun. It’s easily the most Three Houses has ever felt to me like an actual strategy game, greatly limiting your available tools, putting you in challenging and tense situations and asking you to think outside the box and make the most of them to win. Of course, the lack of Monastery and significantly reduced downtime between battles also really really helps.
I hope that the high I felt after finishing this will allow me to appreciate the main game more and get me to see it in a new light, or at least generate enough goodwill for me to ignore the bad parts more. But even if it doesn’t, I’m very happy that there’s a major piece of Three Houses content that I can comfortably say was legitimately great and that I really enjoyed.
Hello i’ve just started playing this game, and I’ve noticed there seems to be a strange audio bug. Specifically, when no background music is playing, the very end of the last sound effect that has played will loop and create a weird whirring noise in the background. It’s a pretty minor issue and it doesn’t seem to happen when background music is playing in the scene, but it’s still kind of annoying and I’d like to know if there’s a way to fix it. Thanks👍
I have such a weird soft spot for this game despite how slow it is and how much the maps suck. I find the limited graphics and story to be kind of charming, the music is excellent, and I think many of the unique gameplay mechanics it brings to the table are quite fun and well aged for an NES RPG. I also think this game provides a unique atmosphere and sense of adventure and exploration reminiscent of a more traditional RPG that no other FE game manages to fully capture. Even Echoes, as great as it is, doesn’t scratch exactly the same itch for me. I’m glad to have replayed this game and I could see myself coming back to it again down the line.

Currently playing Superstar Saga (GBA), having unlocked all the Bros. Attacks by this point, and while I think the whole system of Advanced Bros Attacks is overall pretty cool and fun to use, I don’t get what the point of using Advanced Fire Bros over the regular version is. All the other attacks seem to clearly be upgrades or sidegrades with a clear niche, Splash Bros hits spiked enemies, Bounce Bros hits 2 targets, Swing Bros adds an extra hit and lets you potentially steal an item, etc. but for Advanced Fire Bros the single hit from the big ball seems to actively do less damage than just hitting the enemy with the equivalent number of fireballs unless you only feed it 1 or 2 of them, and the attack doesn’t seem to have any other added effect or bonus over the base version to make up for it from what I can tell (besides the animation being very cool). Is there some secret upside to it that I’m missing that makes it worth using or is the attack just like that?
