I made a small tool to check IPA compatibility with older iOS devices

Hey!

I’ve been going through the huge IPA collections on Internet Archive while waiting for my first iPod touch to arrive, and checking which apps might actually work on it manually was getting pretty annoying.

I’m not a programmer, so I started using AI to make a small Python script specifically for what I needed: select some IPAs, choose my device and iOS version, and get an approximate idea of what should be compatible.

Well... the tiny script got a little out of hand and eventually became this.

It can scan individual IPAs or entire folders and checks things like minimum iOS version, architecture, device family, DRM/encryption, screen compatibility and some other stuff. It then gives you an approximate compatibility result for the selected device/iOS version.

Obviously it can’t guarantee that an app will actually run (especially with old iOS software) but it’s been genuinely useful for me to sort through large IPA collections before being able to test them on real hardware.

The whole thing was built with help of AI (as I said, I'm not a programmer) to cover my own very specific use case. I’m sure there are other tools out there that do similar things, but this one ended up fitting exactly what I wanted.

So I figured I’d share it. If it happens to be useful to anyone else here, I’ll be more than happy! And of course, feedback is welcome.

I got a bit carried away checking old IPA compatibility lol

I'm getting my first iPod Touch in a few days, so I started going through one of those huge IPA collections on Internet Archive trying to figure out what would actually run on it.

I made a tiny Python script to check compatibility... and somehow ended up making this lol

Basically, you select a folder full of IPA files, choose your iPod/iPhone/iPad + iOS version, and it gives you an approximate compatibility check for each app.

Just to be completely clear: I'm not a programmer and I made this with AI. It started as a super basic console script for my own use and I just kept adding stuff to it.

I'm sure there are already other tools out there that do similar things, but this one ended up fitting exactly what I needed. Maybe it'll fit someone else's needs too, so I thought I'd share it here :)

It's obviously not 100% accurate since it's based on static analysis and the real device is always the final test, but honestly it has already been really useful for me to go through my IPA collection and check what should work before I even have the device in my hands lol.

I put everything on GitHub if anyone wants to try it, mess with it or improve it:

Any feedback would be really appreciated, especially if you can compare the results with actual old iOS hardware!

Disappointed with Castor PRO, back to EDX PRO

A few months ago I upgraded from the KZ EDX Pro to the Castor Pro Bass after reading so many recommendations.
I mostly listen to bass-heavy music (trap, hip-hop, RKT, etc.), and I really enjoy deep, powerful bass that you can actually feel.
I expected the Castor Pro Bass to have at least the same amount of bass as the EDX Pro, but with better quality. Instead, even after trying different positions on the physical tuning switches, the bass felt much weaker to me.
I’m not saying the Castor Pro are worse. They’re probably technically better, and I can understand why an audiophile would prefer them. But I’m not chasing perfect accuracy—I just want bass that makes my jaw shake, and for that, the EDX Pro still win for me.
For reference, I tested both with the stock silicone eartips and foam eartips, using a standard CX31993 USB-C DAC.
In the end I went back to the EDX Pro for music and now I mostly use the Castor Pro for video calls.
Am I the only one who feels this way? Is there something I’m missing, or are the EDX Pro really just more fun if you’re a basshead?

My progress w/ Japanese in 2-3 months, advice?

Hi everyone! I’ve been studying Japanese seriously since around mid-May with Genki I, and I’m currently on Lesson 8. My goal is to take the JLPT N5 this December, although listening is still pretty challenging for me. I tried Duolingo before, but it just didn’t work for me.

I usually do the Genki exercises like this: I always try to use kanji, even if I haven’t memorized them yet. If I don’t know one, I look it up in the dictionary and use it anyway. Then I highlight in yellow the ones I couldn’t write from memory. It seems to work well for me.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Few pics waiting for the Shinkansen

Took few pics waiting for the Shinkansen in the Shin-Osaka station. Was my first travel with my camera, think the lack of “harder shadows”.
What do you all think?
