Osaka’s famous glico sign

I visited Dotonbori recently and finally understood why the famous Glico Running Man is such a huge deal in Japan.

What surprised me most is that it actually started as a candy advertisement back in 1935 🍬

Now it feels more like the identity of Osaka itself. Everyone was stopping to recreate the pose — even a random Spider-Man street performer joined in 😂

All This Was Just ¥3,500 ($22) for 2 People in Tokyo!

Not all sushi restaurants are expensive! In fact, my favourite ones are quite affordable and very local. If you want to find this kind on hidden gems in Tokyo, you need to go away from the city centre and explore more residential areas.

This was my lunch last weekend in Fuchu and the restaurant is called Mimatsu. Here's the exact location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZMxvyiNjoP2mAXP28

I also love the old building architecture and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They don't really speak english so prepare some Japanese sentences and use Google Translate to translate the menu.

Itadakimasu!

Might be out of context. 🙏

…but been enjoying these shows so far. Any other good feel/food series shows somehow close and related to the storyline of these two? 🙂

Mt. Fuji (May 5-6, 2026; Yamanashi view+ Shizuoka view)

Golden Week views of Mt. Fuji!

No enhancements on these photos, just straight from my S22 Ultra.

Photo:

  2. Kawaguchiko cabin rental

  3. Saiko Iyashi-no-Sato

4 & 5. Otodome-no-taki

  1. May 6th Kawaguchiko 7:30am

  2. May 6th Fujiyoshida 1:25pm

A little story:

This was a family trip that I planned for my parents. We'd been in Japan since April 24th (started in Kyoto) and Fuji was an intermission from Tokyo (arrived Tokyo May 3rd) for us. My parents spent the whole day shopping on May 4th, visibly tired, and came to me that evening...

"Can we cancel the plans for tomorrow?"

"No. Everything is paid for and any chance of a refund passed over a week ago..."

We took the 9am Fuji Excursion with reserved seats the next morning and we got so lucky with such clear views. My poor parents were run ragged during our trip and wanted to cancel seeing Mt. Fuji, but I'm so glad their effort ended up not being in vain.

We had a car rental and was able to see Mt. Fuji from the Yamanashi side and Shizuoka side, plus the sunset on Mt. Fuji.

Tea ceremony at Uji

I hear a lot of people asking where to do a tea ceremony in Japan.

I did mine in Uji and loved it.

It’s a small town right outside Kyoto, known for matcha. You can visit Byōdō-in, walk around the town, try matcha everything, and eat really well.

If you’re already going to Kyoto, I would definitely add Uji to the itinerary.

Highlights of my Last Trip to Minami Aso near Kumamoto, Kyushu

I had a wonderful trip to the beautiful area of Minami Aso in Kyushu. It's a close to the volcanic region of Aso and it's so underrated! The best would be to rent a car to explore it. You can go to Kumamoto first for example and start your road trip from there.

I give you few tips and cool places to visit in my Aso Travel Guide.

My Hotel Room in Tokyo | Beautiful or Intimidating..?

This hotel in Tokyo features artistic rooms where Japanese local artists come to paint directly on the walls. Each artist will paint only on one room, making each rooms unique.

Would you stay in these types of artist rooms or it's a bit too much for you.? FYI, this was the Otafuku room in reference of a popular figure in Japanese folklore representing good fortune and joy.

If you want to check more rooms, I booked the hotel here.

Budget Friendly Ryokan in Kyoto

If you want to experience a Ryokan stay in Kyoto but you have a limited budget, I recommend you to stay at this Ryokan! You can book it online here.

It has a nice local vibe with the usual traditional features of a Ryokan but the rates here are lower than similar options in Kyoto. At this price, you still have an onsen but it's a bit small.

Ryokans in Kyoto are pretty expensive so check this guide if you want to discover more affordable ryokans in Kyoto.
