Today’s office.

Today’s office.

Went down for a wander in the water on the spring low, spinning rod and silver kilty. As the use started pushing mackerel were making themselves known,(no point posting pics of mackerel, we’ve all seen them 🤣)

At about two hours from low I got a bite!! Definitely wasn’t a mackerel, but wasn’t a bass or seatrout either….

… wasn’t till I got it closer I saw what it was……

….a garfish!!!!!

To say I was surprised would be an understatement and then some, haven’t seen them this far in the bay ever!

Didn’t get a photo cause I was nearly chest high in the water, and my phone was nicely kept dry with the waders at hip height! And as much as I like garfish for eating I let this one go as it was a little bit on the small size..

First Esp32 Project

Been messing with the idea of getting one for ages, And after years of messing around with raspberry pi’s I finally got an ESP32-D.

Hadn’t really through of what to actually build with it, Ended up building an internet radio, with widgets to display time, weather, tides and ADS-B from one of my RasPi servers.

Probably not the best board to do it with, but hey, it’s a challenge..

A lot of messy code and failed builds later I finally got it to work.

Built in a webUi to change configs, add/delete radio streams

Help me get my first children’s book published!

So a little something, well maybe big something is about to happen!!

Finally had a submission to a publishers accepted 😁, now here comes the hard part!! It costs money to get a book published…. And I don’t have the money 😢

So looking for loads and loads of small donations to make it possible to get the book published to hardback and paperback.

I’ve setup a go fundme to help raise funds for the book “Set The Yawn Free” to become available to be read by every child that’s finding it hard to sleep.

Canal Perch

Missus had appointment in Galway hospital, so brought the daughter (10) to fish Eglington canal, she lost a decent fish and I caught this one. Not bad for what turned out to be a quick session.

Tips for hot weather to stay cool!

Anyone else got other ideas!!

Here’s mine:

A handy tip to cool down drinks fast, grab a bottle of ‘whatever’ and wrap it in a paper towel (one to two layers), wet the paper towel under the tap, and place it in the freezer.. it will cool down faster than just placing a bottle in the freezer. This is also great for chilling a bottle of white wine fast.

Galway bay therapy session.

No fish, but it’s nice to get out and clear the head. And also practice my fly casting, second time out this year!!

Just one thing!

Strangely been thinking about hidden talents after going down an instagram rabbit hole..

It got me thinking, maybe everyone will have some form of hidden talent or a side to them no one knows about. As the saying goes ‘Never judge a book by its cover.’

So with that, what’s the one thing you have done, that people who met you for the first time wouldn’t have a clue about or wouldn’t even think it’s something you would do?
Can you recite pi to 100 places? Black belt in martial arts? Climbed Everest? Kayaked the length of the Shannon?

For me, I’ve written loads of children’s books (for ages 3-7), just struggling to get them published.

Jasus lads, since when did this become available in the west again?

Only noticed when changing radio station in the car and noticed a few extra stations showing up!! Had to pull over and go through them.

Finally managed to get out for the first time this year for a few hours, a 25 minute off road cycle to get to the spot..

No fish! But at least the view was nice.
