It should be a rule to ping the original poster when crossposting.

The point of this subreddit is to lightly mock overly pretentious photographers when their skills do not actually tally, not to harbour cold-blooded hate towards practitioners of their own hobby in their corner.

It's better to lightly banter and invite the OP to this sub after their photo is posted so everybody can have a laugh if possible, and not the OP discovering everybody has been mocking them behind their backs, which can cause distress.

Many jerkers believe their work is actually the real thing and they should get a chance to interact to their mockery. Who knows they learn a thing or two about photography.

Please Respect Reddit Users' Private Lives. (Moderator Actions and Temporary Rules).

Rumours surfaced about a user and regular contributor to r/MauriceMauritius.

Those rumours are none of the public's concern, and concern solely the private lives of the people involved. Any “target and expose” campaign being based on false rumours or without evidence will be removed. The people involved will face moderator action.

We have identified all people who are involved. Some of them had their accounts deleted, suspended, and those whose accounts remained have been issued bans. Two accounts were identified. Their sentences were 6 months each, eventually reduced to 3 months.

We have no tolerance for harassment and breach of Reddit Rules. It is Freedom while respecting others' freedom. For any banned accounts Reddit uses algorithms to track creations of alt-accounts. Hence, beware circumventing the rules.

We have long said we would introduce rules for Harassment. Such rules are still in development. Reddit Rules are not clear on Harassment. Because of this, (and given that we do not have our own precise reformulations of the rule), rule-breakers have been granted a more lenient sentence.

Concerning the person in question, we noticed their contributions have sharply decreased following the incident. We wish them the best in health, and in life. They are always welcome on the platform. Our advice to them is, “don't sacrifice yourself for strangers on the internet—in the end it's just internet brownie points 😉”. It's funny I referenced the ex-Mod whom I've often criticised, but he's right on this occasion. Gotta give him that.

Commenters please no more rumours thank you. Enjoy your day.

What is your philosophy about spending money?

When younger I used to let all my money pile up from not being interested in buying anything.

One day my dad told me (from reading too much Rich Dad, Poor Dad), there are two kinds of people. Poor people will spend everything in a day. They live today for tomorrow. But the rich will save…

I had determined another way of living from this fabulous insight. It's actually living today for tomorrow. Because I didn't realise this life was possible! But hold on. Just because you spend everything in one day it doesn't mean you must buy alcohol and luxuries.

I think a simple way of living is being frugal; absolutely not spending more than what you definitely need, and then saving the rest (or investing).

But when you live like this, what are you saving for? If your excess money goes into a separate account saving to accumulate indefinitely, I have found a certain pattern. You become very relaxed and not stressed about money. All choices you make, you just top it up a little bit. Ice Cream? With all the extras. New computer, just take the best. Those little choices with the slightly better option each time accumulate to shave off a large portion in your savings.

I find I optimise my spending more when I'm stressed.

If I have a mortgage to pay and the bank is coming at me, I will find all ways possible to save every cent. You will buy the cheapest cigarette instead of mint-flavoured, or if possible not smoke at all. Instead of travelling by car you will wake early, take the slower train to avoid parking. Turns out you can save money after all if you wanted to.

The way to always be stressed is to have projects.

I think the question isn't, ‘how much savings do you have’, but what is your project/savings ratio. Now suddenly, all the money you have isn't enough. The more urgent the projects the more stress and the more you optimise your savings. That way you can contribute to your long-term personal development that matters instead of spending it on takeout.

I think the most dangerous thing is not to suddenly get a lot of money, but to not have any thoughts on how to allocate it and it will definitely go to waste one little ‘extra’ choice at a time.

New Rules Concerning Low-Quality Posts and Other Updates

“Topics of Sexual Nature” have been expanded to include all adult topics including drugs, alcohol and related topics.

Post Flairs are now required.

We have discontinued generic flairs like, “Culture” and “Food” and will now adopt tagging for historic retrieval. Topics like “Moving Abroad” are recurring and important to many Mauritians. Each new post brings new perspectives that remain timeless and relevant years later.

You can now find a list of such posts by clicking the “Moving Abroad” flair in the sidebar to dig more into the topic.

“Hanging Out” aims to present a list of people who previously wanted to organise meetups. Hopefully somebody can respond even if they were not there at the time of the post. Present yourselves well and meet in public places.

Finally, the elephant in the room.

Since Post Flairs are now required, all Personal Issues posts should be classified as “Personal Issues”. Initially, we wanted to introduce “New Account” User Flairs to obtain statistical user information about post topics.

This allows regular users to investigate posts themselves. However just because your account is new it does not mean your post cannot be of quality. We had also introduced mandatory NSFW tags so some users can avoid contentious topics altogether.

But that wasn't the issue. Certain NSFW questions are still worthy of engagement, like “do you believe in abortion?”

Hopefully, “Personal Issues” hits the nail and if you see, “New Account”, “NSFW” and “Personal Issues”, I hope you better prepare and avoid.

Requiring Post Flairs calls for more effort on regular users just to force “Personal Issues” users to tag their posts as such. I think this is a good compromise to reduce Mod workload and improve efficiency.

Many people wish to ban “Personal Issues.” It is a sensible idea. I think it shows a deeper problem with society rather than silencing voices. The decision has not been made for now.

How Will the PlayStation Ecosystem Evolve in Mauritius?

Sony recently announced they will discontinue all game release on physical discs starting 2028. Anticipated titles include God of War Egypt and Laufey, Gran Turismo 8 and probably GTA 6, FIFA, Formula 1 among many other well-played games in Mauritius.

You buy a console, then you buy PlayStation credits, then unlock your game.

You don't buy games anymore.

The reason they do this is so you don't sell your old games and create a second-hand market so the games compete with themselves.

The second reason is so they know your spending behaviour and ensure you never get a discount if you can afford a game at full price, and push more subscription-based services (like the hell hole Adobe has become).

But here's the problem.

There is no current legitimate way of buying credits in Mauritius.

I don't really know perhaps Micromania/IQON uses VPNs to sell you credits in your desired currency, which on paper is already kind of illegal. Firstly to buy Euros your PlayStation must be configured in a European country with a European address. Else it's in Pounds, Dollars or Japanese Yen.

Some people buy it on websites in exchange of crypto but this remains inaccessible to most family-oriented Mauritians.

Let's make as if stores will start selling gift cards (of major currencies). The activation system is connected to the internet and is probably officialised by Sony itself. This is how Sony likely validates it when you key it in. It has to check its official database. Sony will definitely not recognise Mauritius. If it will it will not let it use a variety of currencies like we need.

I see the situation becoming very confusing in the future.

Personally, I am becoming an adult now (maybe). I think it's time to put down the controller for good. My era the PS2 has now long gone. It was good while it lasted!

[New Rule] Discussions of Sexual Nature Must Be Marked with NSFW Tag.

There has lately been an increase in posts for personal issues about sexuality. Such posts are absolutely allowed. However, many users find them in poor taste.

Onwards we will now require all posts of sexual nature be marked with the NSFW tag. The benefit is that users can hide them anytime if they are marked.

To do this open your Profile Menu (top right) > Settings. Go to Profile, scroll to the bottom. Disable NSFW. You will not be shown any more NSFW posts.

We hope users can now have a more pleasant experience browsing r/MauriceMauritius, all while enjoying freedoms r/mauritius denies.

Please report all unmarked, rule-breaking posts. Moderators see all reports.

Those posts were coming from accounts freshly created but also those with many years. The previous rule to flair all new accounts hence fails to predict if the content will be high quality. We will consider to reverse the previous AutoMod behavior.

Experimental: "New Account" flair for very fresh accounts posting.

Concerns have been raised a slew of new accounts created merely for posting 'questionable' content. No actions can be taken, wanting evidence. We will however flair new accounts to better identify patterns.

All accounts less than 30 days will now have the "New Account" flair. This will allow us to better determine if 'questionable' content comes exclusively from new users, and help the community make more informed decisions when interacting.

The flair is immediately removable. But each time the user interacts it will reappear. So no freedom is breached.

The 30 day cutoff will help the new account establish their own personality before practically allowing them to put a flair of their own.

The feature is experimental and can be rolled back if too intrusive or backfires otherwise.

Two Questions for Pull-ups.

Do you grab with palm facing you or facing away and what difference do it make? Second, if you grab palm facing you, how do you transition to Muscle-up (the point between pulling up and pushing up)? It seems my arms are stuck when closed with palms at shoulders. Likewise, if you grab palm facing away, how do you transition. Do you keep elbows tucked or must they fly out? Or is it just a matter of more strength.

On Nepotism and the Moral Dilemma.

Many people have the frustration, “how am I more qualified than my friend yet he gets the job.” It's easy to say Nepotism is wrong and employers should be more just. Then again it's not as easy to re-consider when you are unemployed for months on end. Everybody you talk to got in because, ‘they know somebody who got them in.’

In fact, the problem is triangular. The employer. The You. And the incompetent guy with many connections.

Ideally, you study a lot, rack up straight A+, send out your CV and get many offers. In practice, your father talks to his friend, tells you, "beta tomorrow you will work at this company", sends you there, they walk you to your office and you begin work.

Many Mauritians criticise this. They'd rather have the A+ get the job before considering the B or C.

First off let me tell you this. People think this is a Mauritius problem. If only you could get out. In “other countries” there is no racism. Everything is so perfect.

Let me tell you this is not true. At least it used to be (kinda). Multinational countries have become so saturated with immigration you find pockets of the same communities. If a business is Chinese everybody who works there is Chinese and speaks Chinese. If you're not Chinese much less speak it you're basically out. They don't even want to know your qualifications. “Send an email.” (Translation: nah, get outta here, unless you're inviting me for roast pork and beer!)

Thai community, Thai. Indian, Bangladesh, save for the whites I think them whites are the least racist.

Nepotism is everywhere. Now with that out of the way.

Let's look at the employer. He'd rather choose somebody who ‘kav faire travaille la couman bizen’ with less grades rather than a perfect grader with no experience. If a candidate barber takes 45min for a haircut, the loss is on the company. Already it's not really Nepotism from the employer. There is such thing as an apprenticeship, but not in high economies with mass migration where there is always another, or in low economies where cutting costs are essential. If you can get an apprenticeship, good on you.

Let's look at the dumb guy. Sure he got in through cheating. But now you completed a study, your relative tells you to go work. You don't? A person needs to work the society needs to move. What is he doing that is wrong?

Let's look at you.

You say you applied to 300 places. All companies in your area are pitched. No response. Why? No experience. You need experience to get a job and you need a job to get experience. How do you get out of this cycle?

If somebody helps you get started, then later you motor your own boat, business is not mathematics it's demand and supply, it's arbitrary choices sometimes very subjective.

When unemployment slams you to your lowest, you will reconsider and accept your cousin's job offer.

Trust me.

Look at this photo. I never understood why it's wrong. I think it's fine. But judges and moderators never seemed to like it. It never attracted an audience either.
