Partner pressure
My husband doesn’t fully understand attachment parenting or why I’m doing it. He’s given me pushback on EBF, co sleeping and nursing to sleep, etc. Our daughter was barely a week old, I couldn’t sit down comfortably (4th degree tear) and he was already trying to go out to eat just the two of us. I also had bad PPA for the first few months, and honestly still don’t like leaving her. I’m full force on attachment parenting, I’m beyond happy doing it, I’m happiest when I’m with her and don’t feel like I’ve ever needed a “break” from her.
He’s been pushing for date nights and we’ve done a few to make him happy. Now, he’s talking about doing trips without her. I’m not at alllllllll comfortable with that. He said he’d like a day with no responsibilities and I can honestly say I don’t get it, I don’t feel the same way. We’re in it right now, and I’m happy to be in it. I’ve fully embraced motherhood for all its beauty and sacrifice. I feel like he doesn’t feel the same way and it’s devastating. He says he loves being a dad, but he’s always reminiscing on our pre-baby life. He thinks I’m crazy for how I mother and in all fairness, becoming a mom changed me tremendously. I am not at all the same person I was.
I love this phase, I want to talk about going on trips with her and the things we can do as a family. While he has so many great qualities, I feel like my husband has been the hardest part of parenting. Has anyone else experienced this?
