Advice for crossing the ditch?

I smell money and big stinky music festivals in Aussie. Just where I wanna be. I'm thinking of moving to Brisbane as I have family there. Any advice to help a young and dumb dude move countries? I'm thinking of being a courier driver or something like that as it's simple and my CV is more geared for work like that. I'm kind of over NZ. I haven't really traveled here yet, but I'd rather save that for when I'm too old to live life like I want (concerts and big outdoor adventures)

I need to look for more stable work, but the motivation isn't there

I've been working again for a couple months now and I like my new job, but I worry the hours aren't going to be stable enough and the overall pay after my first 3 months could be unpredictable. I can't cope with that kind of uncertainty, but at the same time the last thing I want to be doing whilst I'm working is looking for another job. I can't even be fucked cooking dinner let alone making lunch for work. Both of which I force myself to do, but job seeking is a special kind of awful that I am struggling to push myself to do

That's all

How did we get here?

I love me some stinky filthy slams, but I often think when I listen to it who tf thought of these vocals? Like how did we go from Suffocation to pig squeals, croaks, and cricket sounds? It's great, but I'm just missing a few steps. Some of the vocals to slam are so fucking weird I can't help but laugh. At the same time though it's delicious

The Similars

The Similars 2015

This is one of those really weird foreign movies I watched years ago, I wanna see what other people think. It has horrible ratings, but I remember it being quite bizarre and amusing. It seems like some real niche shit because I haven't seen it anywhere since I watched it on Netflix.

It's a Spanish language film about a group of people in a bus station on a stormy night that experience strange things

What's that thing the guitarists do with the pedal on the ground that makes a shockwave sound?

That like bass drop thing. Makes me rock hard like Diamond Head. Hype asf

Whoever mentioned .357 Homicide I had a listen to the title track of Immutable Lethality today and that did this a few times. Fuck it was brutal. Good to see some fresh modern slams recommended

What are some modern examples of creepy, atmospheric, story driven horror?

Was watching the 1976 version of Twist of the Screw today and it had me thinking. They don't really make creepy movies like that anymore

One of the creepiest movies I've ever seen is 1961s The Innocents (the best adaptation of Twist of the Screw). It's an exceptionally made ghost movie about a lady who takes on a job looking after 2 children in a mansion whom she suspects to be possessed by the former servants of the house.

The reason I say films like this aren't made anymore is because I can't really think of any modern films that are as creepy, atmospheric and well written as something like this.

Other examples of films like this are The Haunting 1963, The Changeling 1980, The Uninvited 1944 and Psycho 1960. All these films are super creepy without the need for flashy effects of showing ghosts and demons, jump scares, and violence (with the exception of Psycho which very tastefully uses murder as a plot point that doesn't take away from the creep factor and chilling atmosphere).

I love how with the exception of The Changeling and The Legend of Hell House, these films all take advantage of their black and white picture to really drive the creep factor. Shadows look more creepy and scary in black and white than color. Think mothers silhouette in Psycho. That being said The Changeling and Hell House still work because of the great writing. When you can get lost in the minds of these people losing their minds is so much scarier

I also love how subtle these films are. They don't even have to show the threat to be scary and if they do, it doesn't kill the tension. Not actually seeing the ghosts in the Haunting helps that film because it makes the viewer question themselves what's actually happening and nothing is scarier than what we don't know

Just learned about Andre Nickatina

A song of his called Smoke Dope and Rap came on whilst I was driving earlier and it buzzed me out because it sounded just like the song 24 Deep by Brotha Lynch Hung, which came out after this song, but same year. I could tell just by listening to it that this predates 24 Deep because thinking about it, it sounds like Lynch was playing on this song more than the other way around. Smoke Dope and Rap almost feels like a demo of 24 Deep, unlike something like I Need Drugs by Necro which just shamelessly copies the best and flow of I Need Love by LL COOL J

My work car is nicer than my personal car

It's only a Yaris, but it's about 14 years newer than my Suzuki Swift, and the stereo is so fucking good. I love to crank it up and even though it's only all stock it packs a mean punch. Now I'm used to it, it feels zippier as well and it's very fuel efficient. The fuel gauge barely moves. I haven't driven far in it, but the drives I've done so far would've drained my car pretty fast. I kind of just want to buy a new car now, just so I can have one with speakers as good as my work car without the dramas of mine (it's got leaky doors that make the speakers fuck out and the head unit doesn't work at all) and better fuel efficiency. Swifts are good on fuel, but the Yaris just keeps going 😊

Phones at shows

I get it, each to their own, but I'd like to think that standing there filming the show instead of just enjoying it in the moment gives you about half the enjoyment and fun you'd get if you'd just watch it normally. Saw footage of Deftones in NZ earlier and it looked like everyone in the crowd was filming the show. Just fucken watch it yourself and then tell your friends how it was if you must. No need to have a sea of people filming it

More Police than criminals in West Auckland today

What's the story there? Driving through West Auckland and I feel like every cop in West Auckland was out. Heaps at the Falls Park Roundabout and all up Great North Rd

Hey, I'm 5"9 and 61kg. I've got great legs, but a really skinny upper body with very little strength. As a starting goal, I want to put on at least 15kg and make my arms at least 2-3in bigger as I am over having such scrawny arms

Hardest part of weight and muscle gain is eating the right foods. Would anyone be able to help me make a meal plan that covers breakfast, lunch and dinner within a budget of $160-200? Bare in mind I'll be working a 7-5 job and won't be able to cook at work. Would also love minimal prep as it's easier for work
