My dream started where i was at this beach and i saw a girl who was wearing merch of a made up band (in my dream) of a rock / punk duo with a tank top that said “indie rock (or punk i forgot) was never ___” with the exact font and style as the logo just with extra stuff at the bottom. later in my dream i search up “confetti punk band” and it was a band consisting of two members, a mixed girl with straight black, messy hair and a white dude with lots of facial hair. it happens to be that these two members had died a few months before in an explosion and the world didn’t know for days. i then found their merch store where they sold the tank top and etc. it all felt extremely real and turns out there is a alt rock band called confetti but it’s not at all what i was thinking about

After reading the pitchfork article with underscores, they refer to jane as a “genre-wrecking artist” and so do many other articles, and i can only agree in some parts. I do think that she is very broad with the music genres she makes, and i’m not asking her to make more types of music, but I think the ones that she mainly provides or have made aren’t very far apart. All her production has a thing in common: complicated drums and loud music. Plus, dariacore was literally a subgenre that came from many types of music before that are super similar to janes in the dariacore series. For example, 100 gecs in 2020 was making very similar remixes to the dariacore albums in 2021. And now, status update music and grave robbing don’t have many similarities to the original dariacore in my opinion. You could just categorize them as other subgenres of / or just EDM. Along with the main jr projects, i believe that rap and pop can be very close especially with the pop artists that continue to focus on pop music. Rap and pop are the most popular genres ever basically, and in How To Teleport she credits Chiquimamani-condori as one of her inspirations for the song (an experimental artist). Pop and rock are also very close, especially with artists now that focus on a rock/indie rock production that are still classified as pop or indie pop. I’m not discrediting any of her work, it’s really good, and i’m not saying that she isn’t making new music and experimenting with genres, it’s just that people (especially articles) make it her to seem much more broad and unique than her genre selection actually is.
