Thoughts on “safe zones” - and what the need for them says about the PL movement.

For those who don’t know this is a public order act in the UK as of 2023 and is a “150-metre boundary … place around all clinics and hospitals offering abortion services known as a ‘safe access zone’” (the government website offers the following information)
Within these boundaries it is now a criminal offence to intentionally or recklessly:
influence any person’s decision to access or facilitate abortion services at an abortion clinic
obstruct any person from accessing or facilitating abortion services at an abortion clinic
cause harassment, alarm or distress to any person in connection with a decision to access, provide or facilitate abortion services at an abortion clinic
Police and prosecutors will consider each case individually based on the evidence. However, this could include:
handing out anti-abortion leaflets
protesting against abortion rights
shouting at individuals attempting to access abortion services
This could also cover prayer, including:
silent prayer
holding vigils
any behaviour where someone is intentionally trying to – or recklessly acting in a way that might – influence a person accessing the service
Anyone found guilty of breaking the new laws will face an unlimited fine.

Is this a law you would like to exist where you live? (How would you improve it!?)
If you are pro life what are your thoughts or reflections on this?

Stop telling me to put my unborn child up for adoption!

I’m pregnant and don’t want to be, the amount of people suggesting adoption instead of the other obvious and less consequential option is ridiculous.

I don’t want a child, I don’t want to be pregnant ….

It’s so annoying because it’s such a US centric concept to just “give the baby up for adoption”. And extremely short sighted too.

I’m not from the US, in the country I am from a person cannot simply give a child up for adoption- it’s more or less impossible! Especially since the father wants the baby.

And even if it was possible:
My pregnancy doesn’t exist in a vacuum…. carrying a child to term and giving it up because I don’t want it comes with vast social consequences.

I regret getting pregnant.

I hate being pregnant, I’m fat, uncomfortable and absolutely miserable all the time!

The worst thing is that pregnancy has made me realise how much I don’t want to be a parent. It’s made me really dislike children especially babies, I get really uncomfortable around them!

I should not have done this! Biggest regret of my life

I’m Desperate to get out of my relationship and end my pregnancy.

I’m so lost and full of regrets.

When I got pregnant it was a surprise but my partner was super excited about it and I could see no reason not to be either. For a few weeks I thought I’d made the right decision.

I don’t know when I realised I made a mistake but I did. My pregnancy has been awful, I’ve been sick, and I can’t even begin to describe how awful I feel all the time. At first I thought it was just hormones, but it’s much worse than that. I cry every day almost all throughout the day, I have special midwife’s who call me regularly (basically to make sure I’m alive!). My partner sees how unhappy I am but it doesn’t seem like he takes anything I say seriously.

I really thought I wanted to be a parent one day, but now I can’t think of anything worse than becoming a mother. I feel like I’m grieving a life I thought I wanted and I’m grieving the life I can’t have anymore now I am going to become a young mother (I’m 26 feels like I’m too young).

My partners attitude towards me is at times concerning me, and I’m falling out of love with him.

I know what I need to do to be happy again, I need to leave him, and I really want to end my pregnancy but I know he won’t let me. It’s frustrating because I can’t leave, I can’t afford to, and I don’t have any friends or family near by who can help me. I can’t go to them because I need my job and I doubt they would want to help me, they like my partner.

I am stuck.

Medical tests can feel violating… even though they are necessary!

So I’m preggo! And Honestly being pregnant kinda sucks for me. I know some people enjoy it but I am not.

I’m really struggling with all the invasive and often painful tests that are required of me, I do them, but they make me very extremely anxious and I find them quite an upsetting experience. Typically I keep my feelings to myself, but occasionally I need to vent about them. And I’m tired of hearing;

“Well you have got to do it, think about your baby” … I am doing these tests, I am thinking about my baby!
“You need to do this”… I know I do, which is why I’m doing them, but I’m trying to reach out to you as a friend for support because I’m anxious! Etc

So frustrating! Is it really that hard to say, “I know it’s not fun” “I know it’s feels invasive” “I know it makes you feel anxious”, “that’s okay”.

This is why I never open up about my feelings, because too many people basically say “well it wouldn’t bother me so I don’t know why it bothers you”

Please stop saying “don’t worry I’ve seen it all before”! It doesn’t help!

I’m pregnant atm, and one thing I’m really anxious about it is all the poking and prodding I’m about to receive.

Honestly I’m a real prude, I hate being naked, I’m a never nude (picture jorts under all my clothes Tobias funkë!!). I get wildly anxious about all the invasive medical check ups that are going to be expected of me now I’m pregnant.
Whenever I voice these concerns and fears I’m always told something like “don’t worry they’ve seen it all before it doesn’t phase them”… it annoys the hell out of me.
I don’t care how many strangers vaginas Nurse/Doctor/midwife x has seen! Sorry I don’t! I’m the one who’s anxious as I’m the one who’s going to be in this vulnerable position for the first time! I don’t care if the medical professional does this everyday - I dont do this everyday.

Being pregnant has ruined my life.

To all those undecided on whether to keep a surprise pregnancy or not, please let me be your cautionary tale.

When I found out I was pregnant (about 3 months ago) I was almost excited. I thought I wanted this, I told myself there is no right time to have a baby and that at 27 I’m neither too old or too young… “I can do this”!
I allowed the excitement my partner had to overshadow my valid concerns, I knew I would have doubts! But my partner really wants a baby with me so why should I listen to those worries?

I was a fool for ignoring my concerns. And I will never forgive myself for doing so.
