I built a simple Gmail notification control app

I built an app called Owl VIP Email Alerts for iPhone and Android, and I’m looking for feedback from people who care about email workflows.

The idea is simple: instead of getting notified for every Gmail message, you can choose specific senders or domains that are allowed to notify you. Then you can quickly switch between VIP-only, all email notifications, or no email notifications.

I know Gmail can approximate some of this with filters, labels, and notification settings, but I wanted to make it simpler with a clean VIP list + quick notification mode switch, without having to manage filters/labels.

It also supports custom notification sounds and longer sounds for important emails you really don’t want to miss.

It works with Gmail and Google Workspace accounts.

I’d be interested to hear whether this kind of simplified notification control would be useful in your email workflow.

Do you get too many email notifications?

Do you keep email notifications on, or do you turn them off because there are too many?

I’m asking because I built an app called Owl VIP Email Alerts. It works with Gmail and lets people get notified only by certain senders, like friends, family, doctors, or important businesses, instead of every random email. It also has longer notification sounds you can use for important emails so you don't miss them.

I know one older person who finds this useful because he gets a lot of junk email but still wants to hear when certain people email him.

Does that sound useful, or do most people here just turn email notifications off completely?

Instant Gmail notification control

I launched Owl VIP Email Alerts last month, and here's the new trailer.

It’s a Gmail notification control app that lets you quickly switch between VIP-only, All Emails, and No Notifications from one simple screen. You can get notifications from only specific senders or domains, set Gmail-only quiet hours, and assign unique sounds to important senders.

The idea is to stop random Gmail interruptions during sleep, work, class, or focus time, while still letting important emails get through.
