Existing Baseboards? Stain or Paint White

We have existing 4-inch hardwood baseboards in a darker finish, and the door trim is also finished in a matching darker tone. The baseboards are original from late 1980 custom build. We want to floor with red oak natural which is light colored hardwood flooring. Can we stain the existing baseboards to be lighter color? Or Should we just paint it white?

Mitigation System , 3 samples sufficient for safety ?

For the house we are interested, There is mitigation system already installed. But, we have to waive off inspections ( upto certain dollar value) due to sellers market. But, at private viewing, I used aranet radon plus to take 3 samples and they are 2.4 pCi/L, 1.4 pCi/L and 1.8 pCi/L.

I understand I need much more sample measurements, but does the measurements that I did at least de-risks the mitigation or any unknowns? Replacing Fan and sump pump cover is not too much work, but laying the piping in basement for new radon mitigation is much more expensive.

Nest Thermostat + Home Assistant vs. Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen)

I’m planning to use Home Assistant with Matter devices through an Apple TV as the Thread border router.

My understanding is that the non-learning Nest Thermostat does not support Google’s remote temperature sensors directly.

I have a few questions:

  1. Can Home Assistant use an external temperature sensor and automate the Nest Thermostat based on that sensor’s readings?
  2. Can Home Assistant act as the “intelligence layer,” deciding when to heat or cool, while the Nest remains the actual HVAC controller?
  3. Would the Nest Learning Thermostat 4th Gen offer any meaningful advantages when used with Home Assistant, or would most of its learning and automation features become redundant?

House with price cuts, why an under-asking offer that waives inspection?

There's a house in my (hot) market that's had price cut. It needs small work, like an outdated kitchen, no basement, etc. We put in an offer, but the seller's realtor told us they got another one that came in under asking (not by a lot) yet waived inspection entirely.

I don't get the logic. What's the reasoning behind offering below list price and waiving inspection? It's not like there's a bidding war.

Superluminal speed causality explanation without relativity?

In all the discussion about superluminal speed, the answer is that special relativity lets different observers disagree about the time order of events or you can have a message sent back before it's sent, hence superluminal speeds would violate causality. But isn’t one of the postulates of special relativity that the speed of light/causality is the same in all inertial reference frames? So, if we assume that superluminal speed exists, meaning a hypothetical device or particle can travel faster than a photon at speed (c), wouldn’t that already violate the axioms of special relativity?

If so, how can we use special relativity to explain/predict why causality breaks down? If an axiom is broken, the associated math/model can't be used for predict, right?

EDIT: I meant in such hypothetical situation, can we still use SR to explain the causality?

Crash/Kernel Panic with Facetime+Zoom/Gmeet with External Monitor

Every time I use my MacBook Neo with an external monitor as main display set to scaled resolution, the system crashes as soon as I use anything camera-related such as FaceTime, Zoom, Google Meet, etc. It works fine without external monitor.

The exact same monitor/setup works fine with my M4 MacBook Air and M3 Pro MacBook, so I’m wondering if this is specific to the MacBook Neo.

Can anyone else reproduce this? Is this a known software/driver bug, or could it be a hardware limitation?

Neo Crashes with Continuity Camera enabled

I just want to post this bug so that others can land on it and find a workaround. Neo crashes every time I open zoom because continuity camera is enabled by default. Basically, there is a bug with Neo and Continuity Camera.

I resolved it by disabling continuity on iPhone. This also happens with Google Meet as well.
