Finally got base weight under 45 lb
After years of wasting money chasing grams, I’ve finally dialled in the perfect lightweight setup:
Durston X-Dome 1+ Pro — 1.7 lb
Osprey Aether 65 because frameless packs are uncomfortable — 4.8 lb
Nemo Tensor RW — 1.3 lb
0°F synthetic sleeping bag, regardless of season — 5.2 lb
Helinox Chair One — 2.1 lb
Lodge cast iron skillet — 5.5 lb
Full-size splitting axe — 4.5 lb
Nikon D850 + 24–120 because iPhone photos look like shit — 3.7 lb
2 L Nalgene filled from home so I know the water is safe — 4.4 lb
Jetboil + full fuel canister — 1.4 lb
Crocs — 0.8 lb
Bear spray — 0.75 lb
20,000 mAh power bank — 1.0 lb
Four tall cans of beer — 3.1 lb
Cotton hoodie for camp — 1.5 lb
Actual pillow from my bed — 0.7 lb
9-inch survival knife in case bushcraft happens — 1.2 lb
Hardcover copy of Into the Wild — 1.0 lb
Base weight: ~45 lb
Obviously consumables don’t count, so the beer, water and fuel are free.
Thinking about cutting the handle off my toothbrush to offset the weight of the cast iron.
Any other obvious places I can save grams?
Please don’t suggest cold soaking. I have standards.
Incredible tent! I'm normally a hammock guy in the backcountry but last weekend I forced myself up above the treeline so I could try this bad boy out. Super light, easy to set up and very spacious even for myself at 6'2"!
Hidenau Scout tires and Mosko Moto Reckless 80 luggage. Likely also going to put on some Pro Taper High Adventure bars. This thing was an absolute pig to lug up almost 2000m of elevation but honestly I had a god damn blast.
I think this was one of the best sleeps I've had in my life.
