Koho - Chinese Hotpot Kitchen, Bangalore

We tried the half-and-half hotpot with side dishes including mushrooms, pork belly, fish fillet, vegetable dumplings, bean curd, and tofu skin, along with two desserts. The total cost was around ₹3,200.

To start with the experience, the wait wasn’t too long, but it was disorganised. It was just the two of us, but one couple and one group that arrived after us somehow got seated before we did. I’m not particularly happy about the group either, but I can understand that they may have had a bigger table open up. The couple, however, was annoying. None of us had a reservation.

We had to wait around 30 minutes, which is what the guy had promised, so points for that.

As for the food, it was quite flavourful and spice-heavy. We had the spicy Sichuan and Tom Yum broths, and both were really nice. They had six veggie broth options. There were no free refills, which was a bit of a bummer. They give you hot water instead, although I’m not really sure how that helps.

The sides were reasonably priced, albeit on the expensive side, but it was good on the quality and the portion. However, they had also run out of chicken dumplings and sticky rice cakes.

The sauce station, although we sat down at our table at 10PM, already felt like it was about to be over. Towards the end of the meal, half of the condiments had run out, and they never refilled them. Sauce station is important for a hotpot experience.

Overall, I do think the staff were aware that things weren’t going smoothly. They apologised profusely whenever there was an issue, which I appreciate, but the problem was that the apologies rarely translated into anything actually being fixed. The actual food was the strongest part of the experience. Both broths were genuinely good, and the sides were decent, but the disorganised seating, unavailable items, lack of broth refills, and poorly maintained sauce station took away from what could have been a much better experience. Maybe do a reservation when you’re planning to visit and reach early.

At around ₹3000+ for two, I expected the service and overall upkeep to be more polished. Good food, but the experience didn’t quite match the price.

Highly Disappointed with my new roles promotion hike percentage

So I work in production support for an investment company. The job and the people I worked with were toxic as hell. Manager hated me, colleagues were rude, the whole shebang. I have 5 years of experience working for financial institutions.

Earlier base pay: 14.77 LPA
Grade: 2

My company allows internal switching so I changed my role into marketing data. The new team genuinely seems nice, the work looks interesting (I have no passion towards IT, just something that pays the bills).

New base pay: 16.99 LPA
Grade: 3

Which is essentially nothing but a 15% hike. In the last two years I’ve worked in the company my earlier manager gave me 6% (successful rating) and 3%(inconsistent rating) - he didn’t like me at all so it’s understandable.

When I got selected for this role, if nothing I was expecting a 30% hike. It’s not like I make a lot of money in the first place that 30% would’ve been too much. But they sent a letter with 15% and it’s most likely not negotiable.

I’m just disheartened with the numbers. I’m just confused if I’m expecting too much and this is the standard even when you move grades in an organisation.

For reference, I personally know someone who got 19LPA for grade 3 and he has less experience than I do - so it’s not like it’s unheard of.
