Best bagel recipe?

EDIT: thank you for all the recipes!! Keep em coming and if anyone has any more beginner advice or tips I’d love that! I’ll post results with credit when I try them xx

Hey yall—I’m a Long Island/NYC transplant in a state that has garbage bagels that are essentially rolls with a hole in the middle. I love bread making and would like to try a classic NYC bagel as close to authentic as I can find.

Anyone have a recipe they’d like to share? For personal use, not for sale bagels!!

How can I develop better mindfulness in conversation?

Kind of a long list but please stick with me x

I feel like a huge asshole. I am in major burnout. I have a serious injury that’s kept me out of work and my grounding hobbies, including exercise and lifting—and I am not handling it well. We are at the lowest we have ever been with finances, and my partner is also struggling to find more work. They’re SO supportive and understanding. This isn’t coming from them or any sort of issues, this is just me desperately trying to hang on to my mindful nature and not lose myself in this burnout.

I am always frustrated, and apparently have lost my ability to think before I speak and be mindful of my words??? I’m snapping, I’m slinging attitude, and i am struggling to understand things that I don’t necessarily see the same way, and it’s making my frustrations worse. It’s almost like the burnout is forcing personality changes. I’ve never been this bad, or frequent with this crap, ever. e v e r.

I’m struggling to stay grounded, and my dissociations are increasing. Like I’m just a bit detached from reality and like all my experiences are just…off from everyone else’s. They don’t see or hear things the same way and it confuses me lately.

I’m safe and medically managed and taking all meds as rx’d—but I need advice.

>How do yall develop the ability to think before speaking?
>How can I work on being more mindful in conversation? I want to stop behaviors like over teasing and I want to be more mindful of when others aren’t in a great mood so my teasing doesn’t make it worse.
>How does everyone stay grounded and mindful in general?

I just feel like a failure of a person and an absolute asshole. My therapy is helping some but I need to get a temp check from other NDs.

Heeeellllpppp lol Feel free to ask clarifying questions but please be easy on me.

love yall xx

How to help train focus in the field.

Posting for a buddy who’s embarrassed lol

Buddy (30M) has a SDIT (Chance) who’s awesome. They recently moved to a much more friendly area, and people are routinely making eye contact and trying to pet and interact with Chance. Buddy has specifically worked on this coming from a city, but city folk understand the vest and stay the distance, allegedly.

Buddy has noticed a bit of unfocused…ness from Chance. Nothing wild, but they have noticed some more excited pulling and looking around more than normal. In one instance, a stranger very deliberately made eye contact and called to the pup and they took a few steps forward in interest. What’s impressive to me is that Chance is able to snap back into work mode and do their job well.

These are momentary lapses, and (this is from me, not Buddy) to be fair, it only happens when people entice Chance, and walking up to and through the doors of stores. Outside of that, in my handler opinion, they’re still pretty solid.

Buddy is really worried and panicking that they’ve ruined Chance. I do not think so. How can we help them fine tune and shore up the focus issues? And how can we make sure strangers stop engaging?

EDIT: Buddy has a trainer. They see the trainer as much as possible with their disability but buying a fully trained dog wasn’t an option. I think they’ve done pretty great so far. It’s been a little tough with flare ups but luckily they don’t last too long.

I want to finally go ahead and make strides to be a home baker.

Tl;dr — what really goes into becoming a home baker that is profitable, and does anyone have tips for starting?

I’ve been playing with the idea for a long time now, and I’ve “perfected” recipes (lol) and am now honing my decorating skill. My questions are:

  1. Does anyone have special licensing/permits/insurance? Were you able to just start it up or did you have to go through government and legal channels?
  2. Is anyone successfully working for themselves so that their main gig or day job is only part time?
  3. Was anyone successful enough to quit the day job completely and bake full time?
  4. Where should a n00b start the ball rolling? I am totally lost on where to start in establishing myself

tia!! happy baking xx cheers !

Task advice: PTSD edition

Tl;dr How did yall train PTSD/Panic detection?

Hello! Can anyone give us some advice or alternate techniques on how to train early detection?

And, does anyone have their dog trained to help ground through dissociations?

I’d like Gilly (6yo FS black English lab) to try and detect an ptsd/dissociative episode or panic attack before it happens. Does anyone know how to actually do this? Right now she just knows how to interrupt and mitigate or stop an episode.

My trainer said that, since I have very few natural visual queues (it’s hard to visually see when an episode is starting), that I should be trying to assign a motion to the beginning of the panic feeling (starting to feel anxious and needing to deep breathe, so tap thigh etc.).

Thoughts? Thanks again!

Solid social media trainers?

Edit to add: does anyone train with a toy? Do you have pros/cons or advice on how to start/video references? :) Tia!

Hello friends! I am looking to supplement my professional training with reputable media resources I can access for free—I see a lot of profiles on instagram and YouTube, and I’ve heard there’s some on TikTok—are any of them worth it? Sometimes I get mentally stuck/I can’t figure out a solution to a problem in between lessons, so it’s nice to have visual reminders. Please drop the profile links! My trainer is out on family emergency, so we are on our own for a while. I don’t want to let her down!!
