Wait, the Gulf monarchies are just immigrant families? 🌍👩‍🚀🔫👨‍🚀

Saudi Arabia (Family of Saud): A huge kingdom, but their ancestors originally came from the Al-Qatif region in Eastern Saudi Arabia. Instead of making it their capital in their own coastal homeland, they did it in the middle of the desert.

Qatar (The Al Thani Dynasty): Today, they own some of the most luxurious airlines and jaw-dropping skyscrapers in the world, but their roots trace straight back to Banu Tamim, a tribe from the small village of Ushayqir in the middle of the Najd desert. In other words, despite all that "Qatari high society" glamour, their true origin is pure, old-school Saudi country boys from the heart of the desert.

Kuwait (The Al Sabah Dynasty) & Bahrain (The Al Khalifa Dynasty): These two ultra-rich neighbors are actually historic roommates! Both of their families originally hailed from the small town of Haddar in southern Saudi Arabia, belonging to the exact same tribe (Banu Utub). Back in the day, they probably looked around and said, "There’s no future for us in this desert town, let’s pack up and move to the coast." So they hit the road; one family ended up running Kuwait, while the other took over Bahrain.

United Arab Emirates (The Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi & The Al Maktoum of Dubai): You know those billionaires driving gold-plated cars and keeping pet cheetahs in their backyards? Well, unlike their neighbors, they can actually say, "We are local born and bred." Their roots lie in the Liwa Oasis, right inside the UAE, belonging to the Bani Yas tribe. Unlike the Saudis who stayed inland, these guys migrated from the deep desert straight to the coast and literally rewrote the book on turning coastal sands into skyscraper capitals.

Oman (The Al Busaid Dynasty): Now, here is the plot twist of the Gulf! The Sultan of Oman isn’t originally from Oman at all. His ancestors actually migrated all the way from the Marib region in Yemen, belonging to the Al Busaid tribe. So, if we are being completely honest, you could say the rulers of Oman are historically just Yemeni expats who made it big.
