Yes or no to magic items for testing a level 14 one shot (2024)

Hey everyone, so my DM is testing a one-shot he designed for level 14 characters. It’s 5 of us, and we’re gently debating about whether or not to give magic items. My only experience with one-shots up until this point has been level 20 one-shots, where we got very nice toys, but level 14 is sort of a weird position. Because on the one hand it would make sense to have magic items, but on the other it makes testing maybe skewed. None of us really have an opinion on it yet because most of us haven’t played a one-shot, and out of the ones who have they’ve been level 20 one-shots where we had our pick of magic items. On top of that, this is a testing environment, so if he released it with the expectation that players were given x magic items and we didn’t test it with that, it might be skewed that way, too. I dont want to ask him for magic items if it doesn’t make sense, but I would like magic items if it does. If we should be allowed magic items, how many and what rarity?

How to know if you’re truly drowning

I just started clerking for a state trial level family court. I’ve struggled with executive functioning for much of my life, and spent the last 3 years building myself into something that I’m proud of. The outgoing clerk was supposed to help train us, but everyone decided to have an emergency and we just basically split writing a bunch of orders that needed to be responded to like NOW. As a result, I’ve been trying to pick up the pieces and keep organized, but I’ve been having a million IT issues, and it’s hard to answer messages and keep track of what everyone wants. The old clerk has left, and it’s just me now running the ship. Orders are piling up, and there were a lot of hearings and scheduling things that I wasn’t aware of. The kind of head judge of the area at our orientation said that if we were drowning we should go to him, but really 2 weeks in? I already told my judge and he said “just one thing at a time,” but every time I finish one thing 3 other things pop up. And if that wasn’t hard enough, the state makes us do all these trainings, and family gets slapped with a bunch. I have to listen to hearings I can’t attend because I’m at training, and then I have to catch up with the billion things I missed. I have to spend entire days away from my desk where a billion things come in and I can’t do anything. On the one hand, this is just day 1, but on the other, I’ve let things played out, said “fake it til you make it,” and it all collapses. I don’t even know what saying I’m drowning would do here, very likely it’ll be “tough shit we’re all spread thin” which makes sense. Any advice?

Made all of Griffpatch's tutorials

I needed something to do in between bar prep breaks while not leaving my chair, so I just followed griffpatch's tutorials. I really could've used some references and finished products, especially on the one-offs because the studios often didn't have it exactly replicated. I'm dividing this into two separate categories: Courses and one-off tutorials. Courses are the longer playlists he has on his channel, the one-offs are just that: one-offs. Here's the finished projects and the associated tutorials:

COURSES:

1. Animated Text Dialogue In Scratch

Finished project link: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1324202818

2. Code a Platformer Game

This one's a bit weird, there's technically 3 different "finished" products of this, I'll link the 2 I made here:

The final PC version with mobile capabilities: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1312688735

The final PC version with Cloud capabilities: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1313990026

3. Griffpatch's Top Down Scroller Tutorial

Finished project link: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1316277953

4. Tile Scrolling Platformer Tutorial

Finished project link: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1309657403

This was absolutely brutal. Even just following the instructions, there was a lot and you had to like make custom lists. Taught me a lot, but man it was harder than the RPG scroller tbh.

5. Griffpatch's Geometry Dash Tutorial

Finished project link: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1316198766

6. Crazy Fun Raycasting (3D Scratch Tutorial)

Ironically less complicated than the tile scroller.

7. Lemonoids Coding Tutorial

Finished project link: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1233530298

Just doing the bar prep course

Hey so someone told me that doing 100 percent of the bar prep course is the bare minimum. But after like 10 hours of work every weekday, I am exhausted, and cannot possibly push myself for more. I just cannot find time to do adaptibar unless I went significantly over time, and I wouldn’t be effective at that point. Am I screwed if I only do 100 percent of Themis bar, getting a good enough score every assignment?

[Online][5e 2014 or 2024][Mondays or Tuesdays][EST]

Hey, Im Justin, 26 years old, use he/him pronouns. I’m a pretty experienced DnD player and DM, been playing for around 10 years now, and am looking for a regular Tuesday game as soon as possible or a Monday game starting in August. I like improv comedy, doing silly voices, and playing pretend. Looking for a dnd game, preferably 2014 but as long as it’s DND I’m happy.
