Winterize old wooden door?!

Winterize old wooden door?!

Hi all! My partner and I live in a basement apartment in California. A cold winter is expected, so we are trying our best to winterize to keep down costs in our space that has zero insulation. Last year, we stuffed a blanket into the cracks of our front door. But we want to be more efficient this year. Any ideas for two broke folks who aren’t handy? I’ll add a video in the first reply.

Small chest freezer - noise normal?

Hi all! I’m a broke grad student who bought a cheap chest freezer so I can have a bunch of frozen meal prep during the semester. It’s been making a very high pitched sound, more like a high frequency - almost like those dog whistles that get dogs to stop barking. It also started making this sound today (see video). Should I be concerned? Thank you so much for the help.

Gastroenterologist worth a visit?

Hey all - I have DIE and live in the Bay Area. My most aggravating symptoms are IBS-C, bad gas and bloating from hell. I am trying to figure out if it’s worth going to a gastro, or if they will do what most specialists do and say “it’s your endo, go to your gyno and get on bc” (which I have done and it has only made things worse).

I have hEDS and MCAS so am nervous about getting the endo on my colon excised - not to mention that my insurance wouldn’t cover much of the cost.

Any ideas? Should I try and see a gastro? Anyone know of any in NorCal that have familiarity with endo?

Acne like bumps on neck around ovulation?

Hey all! I get acne-like bumps on my face and neck right around ovulation, then they slowly fade, go away when my period starts, and then come back again right around ovulation. I was on a progestin-only pill for awhile and it almost completely stopped, but that had bad side effects so I had to get off it. I figure it’s an estrogen related symptom, and am curious if anyone else had found a way to make it better? The bumps often have tiny whiteheads, or are just like singular itchy bumps. If I pop the whiteheads, they seem to chill out (in a way actually acne doesn’t).

Back in office since 2020 - advice for preventing illness

TLDR: any mask recs for long days in the office? Maybe ones with replaceable filters?
Any nasal sprays you’ve found trustworthy?
Any experience talking with HR about accommodations for immunocompromised status?

Hey all - I’ve been working from home since 2020. But I’m switching careers, and will have to start being in office toward the end of the summer working as a mental health therapist trainee.

I’m feeling really conflicted, because I think it’s often important for clients to be able to see their therapists face. But I’m also immuno compromised, and have been consistently masking/only attending outdoor events since the beginning of the pandemic…. I’d like to stay masked in the office, but I also know that I’ll need to sometimes lower my mask to connect with a client. Right now, I’m using Covixyl (which gets conflicting reviews), and then do a sinus rinse, mouthwash, clean my face, disinfect my keys and phone when I get home.

Any guidance or advice? See above for specific questions. Thanks so much for taking the time to ponder it!

Therapist in Training - Q about masking

Hi all! I'm about to start my first traineeship (at Planned Parenthood) in August. This is a big career shift for me, I've been in radio journalism/podcasting for the past 10+ years, and have been working from home since 2020.

I'm immunocompromised and continue to mask in public places. If masking is absolutely not an option, or if risk is lower, I have other protocols in place to decrease the likelihood of me getting sick. My questions are: Any advice on how to approach accommodations around being immunocompromised with my supervisor? Does anybody here mask during sessions? Anybody on here with chronic illness who works both in office and from home/has found ways to be transparent about chronic illness without going overboard?

Thanks in advance for any advice y'all may have!
