Looking for modern C-drama recommendations after watching most of the popular ones ❤️

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for recommendations for modern Chinese romance dramas, especially ones that are cute, funny, romantic, have great chemistry, and preferably a satisfying/happy ending.

How would you evaluate an AI product portfolio for a non-engineer?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice from hiring managers, founders, and experienced PMs.

Over the past few years, I've built several AI products and agents, primarily for my own use. Interestingly, some of the problems they solved have since become standalone products in the market.

They're functional products, but I'm struggling with how to present them meaningfully. They aren't deep technical or research-heavy projects, so I'm unsure what actually demonstrates product-building ability versus simply showing that I can assemble existing AI tools.

If you were reviewing an AI product portfolio, what would convince you that someone genuinely understands how to build AI products?

Would you expect to see things like:

  • Live demos?
  • Case studies?
  • PRDs or product thinking?
  • User research and iterations?
  • Architecture or workflow diagrams?
  • Metrics or user feedback?
  • GitHub (even if the person isn't a software engineer)?
  • A personal website?
  • Something else?

My concern is that many AI portfolios end up looking like collections of weekend projects or tutorials. I'd like mine to demonstrate product thinking, execution, experimentation, and the ability to identify meaningful problems, validate assumptions, and iterate toward useful solutions.

If you've hired PMs, founders, or product builders - or built a portfolio yourself - I would love your perspective:

  • What immediately stands out?
  • What makes you think, "This person can actually build products"?
  • What are the most common mistakes people make?
  • Are there any portfolios or project pages you've seen that you thought were particularly well done?

Much thanks in advance! :)

Using Google voice instead of Verizon?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using my U.S. Verizon number while living outside the U.S. for the past few months. Recently, I’ve started getting a lot more spam calls, and my monthly bills have also been much higher than expected.

I’m considering switching to Google Voice and wanted to hear from people who’ve done something similar.

A few questions:

- Is Google Voice a good alternative if I’m primarily outside the U.S.?
- Can I continue using the same number?
- Will I still be able to receive iMessages on that number?
- Will WhatsApp continue to work with the same number if I move it to Google Voice?
- Are there any downsides or better alternatives I should consider?

Would really appreciate any advice or firsthand experiences. Thanks!

Major missing - Möge Tea

Not sure how many people here are as obsessed with Möge Tea as I am!

I recently relocated from the US to another country, and one thing I genuinely miss is my regular Möge Tea runs. 😭 I haven’t found a single boba shop here that comes close, especially their fresh taro drinks.

Does anyone know how to make a good Taro Milk Tea or Taro Tofu Pudding Milk Tea at home? From what I understand, Möge uses real fresh taro rather than the typical purple taro powder, which is probably why it tastes so much better.

Also, if you’re in Asia, where do you usually buy good-quality ingredients like fresh taro, tofu pudding, tapioca pearls? Any recipes, brands, or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Recruiting scam via LinkedIn + “AI interview” platform

Hi everyone,

Sharing this as a cautionary note in case it helps someone else.

This happened a month back. Someone reached out to me on LinkedIn claiming to be from a fairly large U.S.-based investment firm for a role that was highly relevant to my background.

Naturally, I did my diligence. I checked the person’s LinkedIn profile - it looked genuine. The firm itself wasn’t a household name like Sequoia, but it was established and credible enough on paper. Since the role aligned well, I asked multiple clarifying questions about the position.

The recruiter then told me I’d need to go through an AI-based interview process and sent me a link via email through a platform called Canditech (which I hadn’t used before).

The first red flag: the email didn’t come from the firm’s official domain.

I asked the recruiter directly whether the email/link was legitimate, and he reassured me it was.

Still, something felt off.

It actually took me 5 working days to even agree to attempt another AI interview because I’ve had mixed experiences with AI interviews before. (Side note: my success rate in human-led interviews has been significantly better (3x+) than AI-led ones)

When I finally opened the link and filled in the initial section, the next screen threw an “Encoding/transcoding pipeline failure” message with bizarre instructions asking me to open Terminal on my Mac and run an FFmpeg command. [Screenshot attached]

Obviously, I was alarmed.

At first I wondered if it was just a technical glitch, so I decided to quickly message the hiring manager on LinkedIn before proceeding.

And that’s when things got worse.

The same LinkedIn profile that had contacted me had completely changed - different name, different details, different identity.

Clearly a fake profile.

I reported it immediately.

What shook me wasn’t just the scam attempt, but how sophisticated and patient these setups are becoming.

For job seekers, the process is already mentally, emotionally, financially, and physically exhausting. To have bad actors exploit that vulnerability makes it even harder to trust opportunities.

Beware of paying for air travel insurance via ixigo

This is a slightly delayed post because, at this point, I’ve pretty much given up following up with Reliance (the insurance provider tied to ixigo).

For context, I usually book my international flights via Amex Travel, Priceline, or similar platforms. But last December, due to limited availability, I booked an India-to-US flight through ixigo for the first time and, as usual, opted for the travel insurance add-on.

Unfortunately, my trip got interrupted because of an issue caused by the airline (completely outside my control), so I filed an insurance claim under trip interruption.

What followed was 5 months of exhausting back-and-forth.

Reliance kept rejecting the claim on what felt like highly convenient interpretations of their own policy — in some cases directly contradicting the wording itself. I appealed multiple times, provided all documentation, and repeatedly asked for:
• a clearer explanation
• escalation to someone senior
• or even a legal/compliance clarification

Instead, every response was a long, vague template email with no real accountability and zero customer-centric resolution.

What was even more disappointing was ixigo’s role in all this. Since they’re the ones selling this insurance as part of the booking flow, I expected at least some ownership in helping their customer navigate or resolve the issue. But they were mostly unhelpful and distanced themselves from the matter.

This whole experience made me seriously question the value of buying these add-on insurances offered during the booking process via such platforms, especially when the claims process seems designed to wear you down.

Maybe others have had better experiences, but mine was frustrating enough that I’d strongly think twice before booking anything via ixigo again.

Just sharing this here to save others the hassle if you’re considering similar options through ixigo.

Looking for an AI community that builds & learns together weekly

Hi everyone,

I’ve been deeply interested in AI and have been tinkering with it for a while - building personal-use products, automated workflows, and agentic systems. A lot of it has been self-driven experimentation, and I’m now looking to make it more consistent.

With new models, tools, and products emerging almost every day, it feels like there’s always something new to learn, test, and build. I’d love to connect with a community (or individuals) who are actively building, experimenting, and learning together — ideally through weekly meetups.

My background is in global strategy, operations, and investing, but I’ve always been deeply drawn to technology and product-building.

If there’s an existing group like this, I’d love to join. If not, I’d be happy to connect with like-minded folks and potentially create a small, high-agency group ourselves.

Feel free to reach out.
