I think we’ve maxed out the computation skill tree

Humans have maxed out a lot of skill trees already.

Fire? Mastered it.

Wheel? Crushed it.

Some of us are still working on the swimming skill tree but we’re like 80% all there.

Flight’s a hard one coz we technically beat it but it’s expensive and we still need to figure out some of the kinks

With AI we’ve basically maxed out computation. From abacus to writing to calculators etc. machines that think? Yeah we’re the best at those.

Perhaps a little too good?

Do you, a white atheist, get as mad about the white Jesus lie as I do, a black atheist? In what way?

I just thought I’d ask directly. What word would you use to describe your response to the white Jesus myth?

My experience is that my Jesus never looked like me, but I was forced to go see him and sing to him once a week for years.

The best way I can explain my feeling is: subjugated. I truly felt like if Jesus was indeed Lord, then we black people in Africa were the lowest subjects of the kingdom. Sure, white people weren’t angels, but they sure looked more like the angels in the books than I did… I felt like there was god, then white people, then me… it was an incredibly sad thought for a child to have.

More recently, I realised, white atheists must have a different story when they come to realise Jesus of the artwork doesn’t look like what Jesus actually would have looked like. Was that ever a thought? How did it feel, if anything?

TIA

Edit: wording

Edit2: by black, I do also mean African. Like, Zimbabwean, African. I only happen to live in the US right now as an adult. All of my Christianity story was during my childhood in post-colonial Zimbabwe

Teeth don’t count? Hell yeaaa brotherrrrrrr

Just took an L, fell off my scooter and went face first into the road.

Chipped my two front teeth, but am otherwise unscathed.

The ground will think twice about trying to mess with me again.

Occam’s Razor Changes Your Conclusions Once You Go To School

I used to do all the church things including prayer and believing that you could hear god literally answering.

Since leaving I’ve gotten a bachelors and masters degree both in psychology and lots of experience in health and behaviour change. The feeling this person is experiencing is part of the Stages of Change behaviour model, and this is a well studied and understood framework for behaviour change and health sciences.

It just boggles my mind that not too long ago I would have agreed wholeheartedly with this person, thinking it was all gods voice, when in fact it’s just the way humans experience the world, something we know so much about. And as a bonus, the more we know about it, the better we can use it to our advantage. Obviously it’s a net positive that this person is in the contemplation phase of eliminating their tobacco consumption, but working with a behaviour therapist would have gotten the same result and is more likely to stick
