Oklahoma Primary Aluminum responds to Inola rancher's Kentucky testing

I care deeply about the environment, but it is hard to muster sympathy when someone actively votes for deregulation and then acts shocked when industrial pollution lands in their own backyard.

You do not get to champion gutting environmental protections and then play the victim the second it finally impacts your property.

Statistically, the likelihood that this rancher voted for Trump and the deregulation that's causing all this problem for him is roughly 75% to 85%.

Mark your calendars! Voces y Versos Multilingual Showcase and Open Mic | Wed, Aug 12th, 6 PM

Join the local creative community this Wednesday the 12th at Voces y Versos.

Hosted at the Sofia Event Center at 6:00 p.m., this open mic and showcase originally began as a melting pot for Spanish and English artists before expanding to feature music and poetry in multiple languages.

Right now, it's mostly in English and Spanish. We do have some French here and there.

With an eclectic lineup of performers, it is a great way to experience diverse local talent.

Spanish ethnic food and alcohol is sold for those interested!

The event is free!

Come meet your neighbors!

This is how we defeat the people who want us to hate one another.

TCCL adult literacy tutors needed: 14-15 local learners waiting for a match (no experience required)

Hey y'all, if you want to make a real, visible difference right here in town, we urgently need volunteer literacy tutors in Tulsa.

We currently have 14 to 15 adult learners on a waitlist ready to be paired up with a mentor.

Tulsa's poetry scene could use some love right now.

Yo Tulsa!

I know there are plenty of people here who appreciate literature, writing, and simply connecting with others.

I wanted to reach out because our local poetry open mics are struggling with attendance, and we could really use your support.

A rising tide lifts us all, and lately, turnout has dropped to just a handful of folks per night.

Life is heavy right now for a lot of people, writing is how many of us process that struggle, and sharing those words creates a real sense of camaraderie.

Poetry builds a necessary bond, especially when times get tough.

We currently have three main open mics for poetry in town.

Gypsy Coffee House hosts theirs every Wednesday at 7:00 PM.

Inheritance Juicery runs a mixed Poetry and local music open mic called the Homegrown Artist Showcase every other Friday at 6-6:30 p.m.

Noise Town hosts an open floor, discussion based poetry night called Poetry for Thee @ 6:00 p.m. every first Monday.

Full disclosure, I host the Noise Town event, which operates as Tulsa's only third space open mic.

I attended all the local mics without fail for over five years before taking a step back earlier this year due to burnout.

My goal at Noise Town is to build a space where heavy themes are introduced through poetry, opening the floor for genuine discourse, something I felt was missing from other open mics.

It is a place to say your piece, share how the words resonate with your life, and connect with neighbors.

If you appreciate writing or just want to support your fellow humans, consider coming out to these events.

Let us bring people together the best way we know how.

If you made it this far, thank you so much for sticking with my message.

I really hope to see you there.

P.S.

If you are not a poet yourself or are unsure how to appreciate poetry, this is a great opportunity to mix and mingle with the community and If you're an artist, you can find someone to collaborate on with to make new art.

You do not need to be a writer or a spelling bee champion to relate to what people are sharing on the microphone.

The same should be said about writing poetry, I have no formal training and you don't need it either.

<3

PSS

I'm not asking y'all to come to every single one of them, but maybe put these in your calendar so you could be reminded, and if you can come...

Thank you so much.

I'm exasperated with this brand

I know I'm going to be told by a lot of people that this never happened to you, but this happens to me every single time I lose power from a power outage. I have to dance with my light bulbs. I have to flip light switches on and off for 5 seconds or 10 seconds or five times for something I have to wait 30 seconds before I plug things back in.

I have to go through 15 different bulbs every single time this happens, and my God, I cannot tell you how stressful this is. This is not a feature. This is not a good feature.

I think I'm done with this brand because I never had to do this with Hue.

I know it's more expensive and it's probably not as good with the color technology, but damn it's not worth the trade off.

Just absolutely one of the most infuriating things in my life that I have to do.

I'd much rather re-list with the military then have to deal with this on the daily basis anymore. I hate this this technology. I hate it. I hate it.

I don't know what to do. I've restarted my router and my internet modem, I've turned my phone on and off, I've deleted the cache and the storage on the app.

I've tried force quitting and restarting the app, honestly, I've tried everything I can think of to get this to work, but it's just not working.

The crushing existential dread of a Diablo 4 minion

All right does anyone else wonder if video game minions get existentially depressed once the reality of a Diablo contract sets in?

You leave your old gaming gig because you're tired of getting one shotted by plumbers, so you sign a contract with Hell because the benefits package includes a trillion hit points, only to realize on day one that the min-maxing nerd walking through the door hits for a casual quadrillion.

You went from feeling like an immortal god to realizing you're just a glorified, high health piñata destined to get vaporized in half a second because some guy needs a slightly better pair of boots.

Do you think the minions of Hell suffer from crushing existential dread, or do they just accept that they're nothing but a trillion HP insurance payout waiting to happen?

Discuss.

When we said we wanted more coffee shops downtown, this ain't it.

It's always the worst companies to expand the fastest, like some sort of infection.

Round-Robin Poetry Open Mic + Open Floor Discussion @ Noise Town Tonight (6PM)

Hey everyone, we are running our monthly spoken word open mic in the small room at Noise Town tonight.

This is a completely informal and somewhat an intimate event.

Sign-ups open at 5:30 p.m. and we start passing the mic around at 6:00 p.m.

The format is a relaxed round robin where people share one poem at a time, followed by a casual open floor group chat about the ideas that come up, or just how the piece made you feel.

There are no spotlights or high-pressure stages, so you are entirely welcome to just show up, listen, and hang out without reading a single word.

Come check out the space, talk through some interesting topics with local folks, and stick around for the discussion!

Would love to see you there!

Today's Ruck: 14.25 mi / 44 lbs

I did a four-hour ruck today carrying a 44 lb pack.

16:34 moving pace in brutal 93°F heat

3,690' of elevation gain and 9,749' feet of descent.

Burned 1,941 active calories with about four liters of sweat.

Genuinely glad to see Last.fm independent again. Maybe it’ll finally stop being treated like a corporate stepchild.

I’m actually optimistic about the news.

The biggest thing missing from the platform for years has been the actual community.

Online music spaces are so broken right now.

Subreddits and Discords are either totally dead and niche, or completely drowned out by mainstream pop culture.

There is nowhere to just have a normal conversation about music or local scenes anymore, and I really hope the independent team focuses on building that out like they mentioned.

It makes sense why the corporate owners let it rot, though.

Last.fm lost its corporate monetization model because streaming services vertically integrated the data collection.

The platforms became the distributor and the data collector all at once, completely cutting out the need for an outside tracking utility at the corporate level.

But now that they don't have to please a corporate boardroom trying to compete with Spotify, maybe they can just focus on making it a good space for us music nerds again.
