Why are they subtracting the cost and not the fair value? Isn't "passive interest" supposed to use FV?
For equity securities, in the study guide, Our Corp originally bought $10,000,000 worth of stock, but the fair value increased, making the balance sheet $10,700,000 for the investment.
If Our Corp sold all the shares for $11,000,000, aren't we supposed to use the current fair value of $10,700,000, making the gain $300,000? Or am I missing something here?

*Edit: Sorry, this specific problem in the study guide is using the fair value method because the beginning of the problem specifically says the company does NOT have significant influence.
Everyday I ask myself why this company thinks that throwing heaping piles of random apparel items in repack boxes for me to then spend hours sorting is an efficient workflow????
Does anyone actually know the reasoning behind this and if other retailers do this too? I'm no wizard, but there's got to be a better system.
I recently walked from Tui to Santiago de Compostela and the simplicity of walk, eat, sleep, repeat was honestly such an experience. Not to mention how beautiful Spain is.
Although jet lag is still affecting me, I definitely feel like this gloom is settling in.
Has anyone here walked the Camino? How did you do integrating back into your life at home? Did you make any life changes to live a more simpler life - big or small?
My mom and I had paid for economy seats for our flight to Spain (booked through AA, but seats selected and paid for through Iberia).
Well I was just curious to see what was still available and how much it would cost. I had clicked on different seats to see the price and then decided to return to the previous page and keep what we have.
Well now our original seats we paid for are unassigned. I called customer service and the only thing they could do is tell me to bring my receipt for the paid seats the day of the flight.
Iberia’s interface is already sketchy so now this situation is making me nervous. The map shows our seats being available and I just want to make sure my mom and I sit together and PREFERABLY in our original seats.
