Painful bulging veins and redness - Anyone else??

Discovered I have autoimmune issues this year but we don't know exactly what just yet, just that it's probably early on in the disease. So far it's just my consistent ANA of 1:640 + a handful of other symptoms.

However I've been having this problem since August last year where one of the peripheral veins in my right index finger, directly over my middle joint bulges like crazy - and at intermittent times it'll hurt SO severely and painfully. When it gets really bad my finger will begin to go reddish purple around the joint and occasionally the entire finger will end up that colour.

I thought there was no rhyme or reason as to when this was flaring up but have recently realised it flares up with my autoimmune symptoms and typically appears also with a redness over my fingers joints (on both hands).

The rest of my veins, particularly in my fingers will begin to bulge as well when it gets bad and the redness over my joints is almost spider-web like?? Like it appears in the cracks of my skin and the entire area of skin will become red if it worsens.

I've managed to get my GP to order some doppler studies on the vein, but because it's a peripheral vein he's really skeptical as to if it's even really an issue. And I don't see my rheum again until September so I can't ask him about it or push the issue.

Mainly just asking if anyone else has experienced this combo of symptoms or at least the vein symptoms?? Lowkey just want to know that I'm not the only one struggling with something like this.

Best fruit & veg shop in Ipswich?

Was previously getting stuff from a crazy cheap fruit shop in Darra occasionally when I had appointments around that area, but I'm not heading down that way much anymore and it's a bit much of a drive just to go for cheap fruit.

So I'm asking around here for opinions on the best place to get fruit and veggies in Ipswich. Especially when factoring in quality of the produce, how long it lasts from buying it and price.

Very much sick of buying stuff from my local woolies or coles that goes off anywhere between 1-4 days after buying it 😭

Anyone else find their thighs always hurt to touch?

And not in a neuropathic way but like your thigh muscles are so sore that even pressing very lightly hurts SUPER badly.

I'm aware it's because of tight muscles overcompensating for tendon and ligament laxity but for me in particular only my thighs are ever like this specifically, no other part of my body is ever that thigh and painful just by lightly pressing.

Everytime my physio works on my thighs I feel like I'm going to fly through the roof even though she's using very gentle pressure 😫

I'm just like, is it just me??? Is anyone else out here suffering with crazy sore, tight thighs??

Ideas for making use of all parts of foods?

Hi all! I've gotten a lot into doing zero waste in a lot of parts of my life the last 5 years or so but my family and I have been recently looking into making the most of food in particular.

Really looking into making the most of all parts of foods like fruits and vegetables!

So far we've found we can:

- Make vinegar out of fruit scraps

- Can grow new plants from a variety of vegetables (celery, spring onions, romaine lettuce, etc)

- Can use stone fruit pits to make syrups

Hoping others have some ideas!

Aussies with sun exposure symptoms - what sunscreen are you using??

After the Choice sunscreen testing I'm pretty cautious (understandably) of choosing a decent sunscreen that's affordable and has actual good SPF. I know La Roche Posay has a tested SPF of over 60 but it's like nearly $40 😭

I recently started hydroxychloroquine, and even though I had sun exposure symptoms beforehand they've become a lot more severe and I can't even duck out to the bin during the day for a minute without triggering skin symptoms later on.

I figured I'd ask people here what sunscreen they use and what they find works.

The only stuff I had in my cupboard was a cancer council sunscreen that ended up being tested at 24 SPF - and I can tell you now after using it the other day after being in the car driving for only 40 minutes total, it absolutely was dogshit and did nothing to help.

So other Australians with autoimmune issues, what sunscreens are you using that work for you?? Hopefully looking for something under $15 per 200ml-250ml but I'll fork out more money if necessary.

And we'd only just bought it 😩

We bought a new tamarillo tree since our last once decided to suddenly die after 2 years (tamarillo trees *love* to suddenly die - they're very picky) and found this when re-potting it into a big 40L pot...

Anyone else tired of being in diagnosis limbo? 😭

I'm lowkey stuck in diagnosis limbo currently. My rheumatologist does believe what's going on with me is autoimmune but has done relatively minimal testing (standard bloods, standard antibody panel, myositis panel, standard ESR & CRP, etc) with no positive antibodies etc, just some mild-moderately elevated liver enzymes and a consistently high ANA (1:640 - speckled).

He's put me on hydroxychloroquine and has essentially suggested UCTD or early SLE without actually saying it so I'm still in diagnosis limbo, still with very minimal answers and it's so frustrating. Now I'm well aware I've caught whatever this is early but it's frustrating that because I don't "fit" into a neat little box yet that I don't get to have answers.

I already have hEDS, POTS and MCAS all which took over a decade to get diagnosed so the idea of this getting stretched out longer and longer is not ideal.

Anyone else stuck in diagnosis limbo? How are you coping?

Casual vs contract work pros & cons??

I'm a sole trader contractor currently and have a good working relationship with the company I work with, but yesterday my boss asked if I'd be willing to come on as a casual as it'll make the new superannuation laws easier for them as they'd be able to pay out my super with the rest of their employees rather than separately like they currently do with contractors.

I'm trying to get some advice from all angles before I decide on anything but there are one or two pros in it for me as well if I went casual, but also some cons.

Some key info:

- I'm physically disabled and also on DSP

- I have to report my profit and losses to centrelink every 3 months currently as a contractor, then they deduct any money I earned over $218 each week during those 3 months in one big go - this process sucks ass

- Being a contractor lets me work whenever (at 3am per se) or for 15 minutes at a time

- I pay for all my own programs required for work

- As a contractor my losses get deducted from what I earned which means centrelink deduces less money to account for my losses rather than deducing the gross profit

Pros of going casual for me:

- I'd have to report my income fortnightly as an employee and then centrelink would deduce the amount for me (saves me the hassle)

Cons:

- I don't know if I'd be able to claim the programs or tools I use as losses anymore if I were an employee, and my boss would most likely not cover them or let me invoice for them as my boss is a bit of a cheapskate

I'm unsure of any other pros or cons to going casual but I very much want to be aware of my rights and my bosses rights before I decide of anything.

It's not listed anymore but I was looking up listings of townhouses similar to my grandparent's place for inspiration to build stuff in House Flipper 2 (a video game) and came across this piece of shit AI staging.

That's supposed to be a full flight of stairs btw, the AI just created a whole ass different level halfway down the stairwell and no one thought they should maybe change it 💀
