There was a lot of interest in the other game I am working on (the Kickstarter is on hiatus), so I wanted to share another one that I have already published. It is called Crisis Command, and it is a tabletop RPG with simplified mechanics based off of D&D 5E. Essentially, each person assigned an ICS role (I even included the new Intelligence Section Chief FEMA has added in the last couple years), each role with its own special abilities. Each player gets to choose 3 resource cards at the beginning of the game, prior to scenario introduction. You then have a "theater of the mind" playing through a scenario and managing those resources. For every definitive action, you roll 2d10 to determine its success or failure.

The game is setting-agnostic, meaning you get to place your own maps and jurisdictional quirks on top of it.

Feel free to check it out. The artwork is an intentional throwback to the civil defense origins of EM.

Hey y’all! My Kickstarter launches next week for my card game. It’s an adversarial game geared towards Emergency Managers and first responders, and someone gets to play the hazard!

I’ve got two hazard decks so far, Pandemic and Wildfire. Playtesting has gone really well so far, and I should be getting even more artwork over the next week or so.
The game is 12 rounds, two players, lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. You have to manage community impact and public sentiment. (Basically your damage) The EM has limited staffing that can only be replenished through mutual aid.

There’s some “invisible” cards the hazard can play that don’t reveal their effects until the next round (like Asymptomatic Spread in the Pandemic deck).

While it’s designed as a training tool for emergency management, my non-EM playtesters had a blast with it!

Officially launching September 14th, I’m proud to announce Ground Truth! I’m an emergency manager by day, a saw a need for an adversarial game where you must think like the hazard. Play the EM, or play your chosen hazard (Wildfire or Pandemic). A 12 round game, you must outsmart the other player through strategy and resource management.

Apparently USNORTHCOM has a new initiative called Civil Support to Military Operations that plans to bring local and state EM agencies into military support. Haven’t even seen a press release yet, but I got invited to a webinar about it. Here’s the link for anyone interested.

Hey fellow EMs!
I clearly got off to the wrong start with my last post, so I’m wanting to start this over and get genuine feedback from everyone.
For those of you that didn’t see it, I’m creating a card game for emergency management. It’s called Ground Truth, and it’s an adversarial card game where one person plays the EM and the other person plays the hazard. I have two hazards: Wildfire and Pandemic.
The EM starts with 15 staffing points and can use 3 action points per round. You can replenish staffing through mutual aid cards.
The Hazard has intensity points they can use to escalate the scenario and try to stop the EM in their tracks. It is 12 rounds, complete with a round tracker where you log your decisions, what injects you did not address and why, and can use it for an after action.

I want to get y’all’s feedback on the initial cards designs. These were done by Milli Pooley, a great graphic artist based out of New Zealand. I’m not here to post links or anything like that, unless asked.

For those from the last post: all AI content has been eradicated. I had a great copy-editor step in, and the real artwork is now live.

I just set up the prelaunch for a card game I created called Ground Truth. It’s an adversarial card game where one player is the Emergency Manager and the other is the hazard. The EM has 15 staffing points and can use 3 action points per round. You can replenish staffing through mutual aid cards. The hazard has inject cards that build the intensity of the hazard, in the attempt to overwhelm the EM. Currently, there are two hazard decks: Wildfire and Pandemic.

Each game is designed to last 12 rounds. Timing largely depends on experience, but anticipate an hour long game.

While this is designed with professional emergency managers in mind, it’s still fun for all gamers!
