My Sweet Granny
I started becoming interested in hoodoo/ancestor veneration for about 3 weeks now and I’m honestly grateful for the progress I’m making and everything I’m learning. I’m very big on venerating and honoring my matriarchal lineage as a woman who advocates for matriarchy & divine femininity. My maternal grandmother who I called “Granny”, transitioned the year before I graduated hs in 2013 on my birthday. I honestly believe she has always been with me in spirit. Example: my mother told me after my graduation ceremony in 2014 was over that it was so crowded that my family (mother and father’s side) sat all over where they could find a spot from the audience yet there was only one empty seat left right next to her. She told me, “That was granny”. My heart was so full hearing that. & of course the divine protection I receive everyday from harm and danger, I give all the credit to her prayers over me and my mother’s prayers who is also overly protective of me. Anywho, after considering practicing ancestor veneration 13 years after her passing, I welcomed her back in on the night of August 1, when I became emotionally overwhelmed with grief over her. It was sudden and I had been suppressing my emotions over my deceased grandparents for all this time since they have been gone. I missed her presence so much and that overwhelm was the battery in my back to begin communicating with her again. All I have is a glass of water, a candle and her photo that I would just talk to and express gratitude. Her birthday was August 10th and I honored my granny, just between her and I. I have also asked her for divine help when I’m in times of need or guidance since I’ve welcomed her in. Already she has shown up for me. My vehicle was at a dealership for two weeks and she helped me financially with the expense just last week when I got it back. The night of her birthday, I asked her for a sign when she’s trying to communicate to me and to know that I’m on the right track in my spiritual journey and as I’m building a better quality of life as a black woman. A spider appeared the next morning where I talk to her in private. I was startled because I despise bugs so I respectfully asked her last night for a different sign that would bring me comfort and suggested a very specific sign tailored to just us so I know in fact it’s my granny communicating with me. She must have loved the idea because she showed me that specific sign this morning.🥹 I was overjoyed and just felt relief and calm. She moves so quickly for me it’s as if she’s been waiting all this time for me to contact her and she misses me just as much. Although I was just turning 17 when she left me, she was my most favorite person in the world & always will be. Now that I just turned 30, I genuinely feel like I’m headed in the right direction with my life and feeling at peace and I have my granny right along with all my benevolent matriarchal ancestors by my side as my guidance and protection. I’m sincerely creating and building my life up for them so they can also experience the joys of life through me they were not afforded when they were here physically. My granny endured a much harder life on earth so I’m making it my duty to honor her with my life. 🤍
