Last chance for David Lynch fans and film collectors.

In just over an hour, Julien's Auctions closes bidding on something I've never seen come to market before: a signed 1980 letter from David Lynch to Eraserhead actor Jack Walsh, written only three years after the film's release, along with a letter from Mary Fisk (Lynch's wife at the time and sister of longtime collaborator Jack Fisk).

It's not a poster or a script—it's a deeply personal piece of Lynch history from the earliest days of his career. It may well be the rarest piece of Eraserhead ephemera to surface in decades.

If you're a serious Lynch collector—or know someone who is—now's the time.

REMEMBER PUNK MAGAZINE? Forty years later, I finally made the PUNK Magazine issue I dreamed about as a kid

As a proto-punk tween in the late '70s, I was obsessed with finding copies. I rarely owned one. Mostly, I read greasy, dog-eared issues I found scattered across the floors of other punks' bedrooms and squats.

I did find a brand-new copy once - the Clash issue - at a newsstand in Stamford, Connecticut. I brought it home, hid it in my room like treasure... and then somehow lost it.

So recently I decided to correct history.

I made my own issue of PUNK magazine—a parody, a tribute, and a bit of wish fulfillment. Using mostly my own photos. It's an imaginary early-'80s issue devoted entirely to my punk comrades from Darien, Connecticut, and our home away from home: The Anthrax.

The issue that never existed... but should have.

Buy it if you wanna live in my LatinX Punk High School Fantasy...with Moby--you can pick one up here:

Two Rare Eraserhead Set Photos

https://preview.redd.it/eslaamzbac7h1.jpg?width=3500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b649fb1ea09a54d0345a0a1156a5ba38b5914fac

A few days ago I shared an original David Lynch letter to Eraserhead actor Jack Walsh that Jack had given to me personally that I am auctioning off at Julien's https://www.juliensauctions.com/en/items/2249445/david-lynch-signed-letter-to-jack-walsh-regarding-eraserhead

Several people expressed interest in Jack's connection to Lynch, so I thought I'd share something even rarer.

Jack was a friend and collaborator of mine, and over the years he entrusted me with several items connected to his work. Among them were these two Eraserhead photographs.

The first shows Jack as Mr. Roundheels.

The second—and the one that really fascinates me—shows David Lynch personally applying makeup to Jack on the set of Eraserhead.

I've never seen this image published in any Eraserhead book, documentary, archive, or retrospective. If anyone has seen it elsewhere, I'd genuinely love to know.

For me, what makes Eraserhead so compelling is that it wasn't simply a film. It was the product of a small group of artists, actors, and collaborators working for years to create something entirely unlike anything that had come before. Moments like this—Lynch working directly with one of his performers—offer a rare glimpse behind the curtain of a film that would go on to become one of the defining works of American independent cinema.

One of the few pieces of LYNCH/ERASERHEAD memorabilia in existence.

I wanted to share this with the community because I think fellow Lynch fans will appreciate it more than most.

I'm auctioning an original letter from David Lynch to actor Jack Walsh regarding his work on Eraserhead.

The provenance is direct. Jack Walsh personally gave me the letter. Jack was a friend and collaborator of mine, and I worked with him on multiple occasions over the years.

For those unfamiliar with Jack, he played Mr. Roundheels in Eraserhead and later appeared in The Straight Story, making him one of the relatively small group of actors who were part of Lynch's creative world across multiple decades. Jack was also the “He’s got your baby” Ghost in Insidious Chapter 2

What makes this piece special is that it isn't simply an autograph or publicity item. It is direct correspondence from David Lynch to a performer who helped bring Eraserhead to life.

Eraserhead was David Lynch's first feature film and has become one of the defining and most influential films of the twentieth century. Its impact can be felt across independent cinema, horror, surrealism, music videos, and popular culture as a whole. Despite the film's enormous cultural significance, relatively little personal correspondence, production material, or ephemera directly connected to the making of Eraserhead surfaces publicly. Most of it remains in private hands, institutional collections, or has simply been lost to time.

That's part of what makes this letter so remarkable to me. It isn't just connected to David Lynch; it's connected to Eraserhead itself and to one of the actors who helped create it. It's a tangible link to the people behind a landmark work of American independent cinema.

As a filmmaker, I've gone back and forth about keeping it. Ultimately, I've decided it deserves to find a home with a serious Lynch collector, film historian, archive, museum, or fan who understands its significance and will preserve it for the future.

Photos are below. Auction link is https://www.juliensauctions.com/en/items/2249445/david-lynch-signed-letter-to-jack-walsh-regarding-eraserhead

I'm happy to answer questions about the provenance, my relationship with Jack, or the letter itself.

David Lynch letter to Eraserhead actor Jack Walsh

I thought this community might appreciate seeing this piece of film history.

I'm filmmaker Paul Sanchez IV, and Jack was a friend and collaborator of mine.

This is an original letter from David Lynch to actor Jack Walsh regarding his work on Eraserhead.

The letter was given to me personally by Jack Walsh, who was a friend and collaborator of mine. I worked with Jack on multiple occasions over the years, and after his passing I became the caretaker of a small number of items that came directly from him.

For those unfamiliar with Jack, he played Mr. Roundheels in Eraserhead and later appeared in The Straight Story, giving him a unique connection to both the beginning and later years of Lynch's filmmaking career. I've also owned EVERY SINGLE HOME VIDEO ITERATION OF ERASERHEAD (including 2000) but the Criterion blu ray is the actual best.

What struck me when Jack gave me the letter was how few tangible artifacts from the making of Eraserhead seem to exist. Eraserhead was Lynch's first feature and has become one of the defining works of American independent cinema, influencing generations of filmmakers, artists, musicians, and audiences. Yet compared to many films of its stature, very little personal correspondence or production ephemera from that period ever surfaces.

To me, that's what makes this letter so fascinating. It's not simply an autograph. It's direct correspondence between David Lynch and one of the actors who helped create one of the most influential films of the twentieth century.

I've included photographs below. I'd love to hear any thoughts from fellow Lynch and film-history enthusiasts.

(For transparency: I have recently placed the letter at auction. If anyone is interested, I'll put the link in the comments so the post itself can remain focused on the artifact and its history.)
Pics are of the letter and Me and David and filmmaker William Dickerson, and Me and Jack Walsh, and Jack as Mr. Roundheels in Eraserhead.
