What should we actually use to judge Indian foundation models?

Sarvam-105B is probably one of the most interesting Indian LLM releases so far. It was trained from scratch in India using compute from the IndiaAI Mission and released with open weights.

Sarvam reports strong results across reasoning, coding, agentic tasks and Indian-language benchmarks.

But independent model comparisons can paint a rather different picture.

For example, Artificial Analysis currently gives Sarvam-105B an Intelligence Index score of 18.

So what does “globally competitive” actually mean for an Indian foundation model?

Is the right benchmark:

A. General intelligence / reasoning

B. Coding

C. Agentic performance

D. Indian-language performance

E. Inference cost

F. Token efficiency

G. Performance per GPU

H. Performance on Indian-context tasks

Because if Sarvam-105B performs particularly well on Indian languages and local context while trailing frontier models on some general-purpose benchmarks, that isn't necessarily a failure.

It could mean we're comparing models optimised for different objectives.

So here's the question:

If you had to pick ONE metric to decide whether an Indian foundation model is genuinely competitive internationally, what would it be?

Spam Control And Monitoring Active in Community

Hi everyone,

We had been receiving reports and been observing the high influx of spam in the community. While we tried to control it initially ourselves, and with the help of participants in the community, continuous monitoring of the situation became a bit hard to execute on a regular basis.

Hence, for the next few days or until we observe a substantial reduction in spam, our community r/Jio will remain under spam control measures necessary to maintain the decorum of the community.

Learning AI is becoming as essential as learning the internet was 20 years ago.

Twenty years ago, knowing how to use the internet gradually became a basic skill rather than a specialized one. Today, AI seems to be following a similar path.

You don't need to be a machine learning engineer to benefit from AI. Professionals across software, design, marketing, finance, law, healthcare, education, and countless other fields are already incorporating AI into their daily workflows.

Learning AI doesn't necessarily mean building models from scratch. It can be as simple as understanding:

i) How to write effective prompts.

ii) When to trust (and verify) AI-generated outputs.

iii) Which tools fit different tasks.

iv) The limitations, biases, and privacy implications of AI.

Those who adapt are likely to gain a productivity advantage, while those who ignore it may find themselves at a disadvantage as AI becomes more integrated into everyday work.

The goal isn't to replace human expertise, pit's to amplify it.

AI isn't replacing jobs. It's replacing people who refuse to learn it.

History has repeated this pattern before.

Computers didn't replace accountants. Spreadsheets didn't replace finance professionals. The internet didn't replace businesses.

They changed how work gets done.

AI is doing the same. People who learn to use it effectively are becoming more productive, while repetitive tasks are increasingly being automated.

Of course, some roles will change dramatically, and some jobs may disappear altogether. But entirely dismissing AI or assuming it can do everything is equally unrealistic.

The future likely belongs to people who can combine domain expertise with AI rather than relying on either one alone.

Discussion is welcome, but keep it civil and back up your viewpoints with reasoning or real-world examples.

🧠 Which AI prediction from 2023–2025 turned out to be completely wrong?

A few years ago, we heard all kinds of predictions about AI:

"Prompt engineering will be the hottest career."

"AI will replace software developers within a year."

"Every company will have its own LLM."

"Open-source AI can't compete with closed models."

"Search engines are dead."

"AGI is just around the corner."

Some aged well. Others... not so much.

Looking back in 2026:

Which prediction do you think missed the mark?

What surprised you the most?

What do you think people are still getting wrong about AI today?

Feel free to share articles, tweets, or predictions that didn't age well, but keep the discussion respectful and focused on ideas rather than individuals.

Let's see which AI "hot takes" history has already disproven. 👇

🇮🇳 If you could add AI to one Indian government service, what would it be?

AI is already transforming healthcare, education, banking, and software development. But where do you think it could make the biggest difference in public services in India?

Some examples:

Faster grievance redressal

Smarter traffic management

Better public healthcare

Court case research and document search

RTI assistance

Tax filing support

Language translation across Indian languages

Agriculture advisory

Education and skill development

Cybercrime reporting

The catch: Assume privacy and security are handled properly.

What service would you improve, and how would AI make it better?

Let's keep the discussion constructive. Share practical ideas, not just "replace everyone with AI."

Today I went to get food delivery for the first time and felt awkward 😭

Do you know what happened today?

I want to share today’s incident. It’s a small thing, but it’s been on my mind all day.

Today around 3 PM, I ordered lunch. As soon as I placed the order, the app assigned a male delivery partner. After that, I got busy on a consultation call with a friend, so I didn’t actively track the order.

A little while later, I got a notification that the order had arrived.

When I looked from the balcony, there was a girl standing with the order on a scooter.

Now for the context...

I live in Delhi NCR. I’ve seen women cab drivers, bike taxis, and women working in every profession.

But I’ve been ordering food online for years, and honestly, this is the first time that my food delivery was brought by a female delivery partner.

And I don’t know why… my brain went blank for 2-3 seconds. 😂

Normally, I talk to delivery partners for 30-60 seconds. I ask how their deliveries are going, whether the job is sustainable or not, what their future plans are… just a casual chat.

This time?

Nothing.

I was on a call. I just showed her the OTP screen. She entered the OTP. Delivered the order.

We both said “Thank you”…

And I rushed straight upstairs. 😭

Later I realized...

Why did I become so awkward?

Maybe because the app was showing a male delivery partner before and the actual delivery was done by someone else.

Maybe because I was completely engrossed in the call.

Maybe because I was half asleep and half hungry.

Or maybe because it was simply an interaction I had never personally experienced before despite ordering food online for years.

I don't know.

I just understood that sometimes even the most ordinary moments can unexpectedly hang up your brain.

Has this happened to anyone else? A completely normal incident that later made you think, “Why did I get so awkward?” 😂

TL;DR: I went to pick up a lunch order. I’ve been ordering food online in Delhi NCR for years, and for the first time, my delivery was brought by a female delivery partner. I don’t know why, but my brain hung for 30 seconds. I just showed the OTP, took the order, and came back. Now I’m wondering how such a simple interaction made me so awkward. 😂

Aaj pehli baar food delivery lene gaya aur khud awkward ho gaya 😭

Pata hai aaj kya hua

Aaj ka incident share karna hai. Chhota sa hai, but pura din dimaag mein ghoom raha hai.

Aaj around 3 baje lunch order kiya. Order place karte hi app ne ek male delivery partner assign kiya. Uske baad main apne ek dost ke saath consultation call pe busy ho gaya, isliye order actively track nahi kiya.

Thodi der baad notification aaya ki order aa gaya hai.

Main balcony se dekhta hoon to ek ladki scooty pe order lekar khadi thi.

Ab context...

Main Delhi NCR mein rehta hoon. Women cab drivers dekhi hain, bike taxis bhi dekhi hain, har profession mein women kaam karte hue dekhi hain.

Lekin saalon se online food order kar raha hoon, aur honestly ye pehli baar hua ki meri food delivery ek female delivery partner lekar aayi.

Aur pata nahi kyun... mera brain 2-3 seconds ke liye blank ho gaya. 😂

Normally main delivery partners se 30-60 seconds baat kar leta hoon. Pooch leta hoon deliveries kaisi chal rahi hain, kaam sustainable hai ya nahi, future plans kya hain... bas casual baat.

Is baar?

Kuch nahi.

Phone pe call chal rahi thi. Maine bas OTP screen dikha di. Unhone OTP enter kiya. Order diya.

Hum dono ne "Thank you" bola...

Aur main seedha upar bhaag gaya. 😭

Baad mein realise hua...

Main itna awkward kyun ho gaya?

Shayad isliye kyunki app pe pehle male delivery partner show ho raha tha aur actual delivery kisi aur ne ki.

Shayad isliye kyunki main call mein completely engrossed tha.

Shayad isliye kyunki main half asleep aur half hungry tha.

Ya phir shayad isliye kyunki it was simply an interaction I had never personally experienced before despite ordering food online for years.

Pata nahi.

Bas itna samajh aaya ki kabhi kabhi bilkul ordinary moments bhi brain ko unexpectedly hang kar dete hain.

Kisi aur ke saath bhi aisa hua hai? Koi completely normal incident jo baad mein sochne pe laga, "Yaar main itna awkward kyun ho gaya?" 😂

TL;DR: Lunch order lene gaya tha. Delhi NCR mein saalon se online food order kar raha hoon, aur pehli baar meri delivery ek female delivery partner lekar aayi. Pata nahi kyun, mera brain 30 seconds ke liye hang ho gaya. Bas OTP dikhaya, order liya aur wapas aa gaya. Ab soch raha hoon itni simple si interaction ne mujhe itna awkward kaise bana diya. 😂
