Severe failure to launch 19 yr old

This will be long.....

My son is 19. He graduated in May, #474 out of 490 kids.

Since he was employable, he's had 2 jobs that lasted less than a month. Bad grades. He was never in any sports or clubs. His room was and is disgusting. He hardly helps with household chores. You have to ask him and when you do ask him, it's usually a massive argument. He does things half-ass so I make him do them again and again until they're correct. Like, that pot isn't even clean, wash it properly.

A cellphone was a privilege he never had 9-11th grade because he did nothing to earn it. MIL snuck him a phone behind husband's back last year. She is a whole other story. She's banned from my home and I haven't seen her in a year. My husband now realizes she is part of the problem.

My son has no plans for college, or trade school. He said he would get a job after graduation. We said ok. Weeks went by. He's going out all night, sleeping until 2-3pm, treating the house like a hotel and my kitchen like a restaurant. He also likes to eat more than his share of any food in "retaliation" for some past wrong he thinks you've committed against him. We gave him a "get a job by this date or you can't live here" speech.

Graduation gifts yielded $3k+, I gave him some of the money but held onto $2800 for a car because he will spend it. At the time he didn't have his license. No job. MIL had $4500 for a car for him. We told him repeatedly to get a job first, get a license and then we can help find a reasonable car. MIL was insisting he needed a car BEFORE a job. Keep in mind we have 25+ plus businesses within FEET of our home that he could walk to for employment. I reminded him he had 30 days to move out, he would cuss at me, tell me I'm creating an argument, blah blah disrespectful blah. But he finally got his license.

He started looking at cars with friends. He kept pestering us to hand over his money. He insisted he knew what he was doing, he didn't need our help buying a car. He said, "you guys don't even know anything about cars anyways." Ok big guy, here's your money. MIL gave him the $4500.

Remember our "get a job by XYZ date or you can't live here" speech? He didn't get a job. The day we told him he had 30 days to figure his shit out, he came home with a $5800 2014 BMW 328i turbo. Getting him to buy $500+/month car insurance was an 8+ hour ordeal I refused to participate in.

He asks husband if he could get a job and stay here. Husband reminds him we gave him that option and he never got a job therefore our consequences still apply.

Two days later, the BMW goes into limp mode. He ignores us when we tell him to stop driving it. A week after purchase, it won't start. Instead of taking it into a professional to diagnose the issue, which he had money for, him and his friends failed trying to fix the car. Another week goes by and he has the car for sale. I told him to check comps on that model, mileage, and the issue he thinks it has. He ignores me and impatiently sells the car as is for $1500 cash.

He asks husband if he buys a truck with his $1500, gets a job with a friend's dad working 26 hours a week, can he still live here?

For the last week, damn near daily, I have listened to him complain about losing his wallet, which has $1k in cash in it. He bribed his brother with $100 reward if he found his wallet. It took 5 seconds. The wallet was in his bed. Last night the older child stole the $50 that he rewarded his brother with.

MIL's SIL offered to buy him ANOTHER CAR. We said no.

A week before he was due to move out, I asked if he had looked for a job. "Why bother when I'm going to be homeless anyways?" Ok. I wrote down 6-7 resources that would be useful for a homeless 19 year old and handed it to him.

Yesterday, 4 days before his move out date, he's upstairs playing his brother's PS5, not a care in the world. I told him he needed to start packing. He says he is going to be homeless anyways and has nowhere to put his stuff. Husband washes all of his clothes so we can pack them and move them to the garage.

We asked why he let things go this far? He thought his one interview in 3 months was a guaranteed job. He claims he was talked into buying BMW by his friend. He didn't want a "shitty rusty" car to drive and wanted something cool. He needs a car to get a job. He didn't "have time" to sell the BMW for what it was worth. He will be homeless. Can he move in with Grandma, get a job and prove he can keep it and then move back in? He will have to spend $1k eating McDonald's everyday because we are abandoning him. What kind of parents throw their kid out with nothing? We are trying to get rid of him. He won't ever talk to us again. He won't be able to contact us anymore. He hopes we don't screw up our younger child.

I told him he chose all of this. He disagrees.

We don't want to kick him out. This keeps us up at night. But we know he has to go.

What is your preferred method for cleaning the crust on the outside bottom of the ears?

Not the inside of the ear. I use ear wipes for that and Gus loves it!

Gus does not enjoy anything sprayed on him. I've tried a spray bottle to soak the crust and he freaks out. Wet washcloths aren't enough. Wipes aren't enough. I guess basically how the hell do you get the bottom of your basshole's ears wet without a full bath?

P. S. Don't tell me to put on a snood to prevent the crust because we live in the desert and it's 114° right now 😒

How old are you and how old were you when you first got into The Stones? What is your favorite album?

I'm so curious if I'm an anomaly.

I will go first.

I'm 43. And I believe I really got into them when I was about 21. Now they're one of my favorite bands.

My dad's favorite band was The Stones. I knew who they were from a young age but I hated them. The blues. The country.

Horrific!

Around age 20-21, he gave me his vinyl collection. Everything was original vinyl that he bought when it was released. Lots of Stones. And while the albums are not in perfect condition, the small scratches, pops, and static make the songs SO much better than anything that's digital.

Have you ever heard Midnight Rambler played from an original used 1970 Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! record? So good!

#1 Let It Bleed

#2 Beggar's Banquet

#3 Sticky Fingers

He knows he's naughty...

Goose stole 1.5-2lbs of Parmesan? And he even looks behind him to make sure no one is around!

Puerto Peñasco dental

I see a lot of people on here posting Mexican Riveria, TJ, and Los Algodones. Thankfully I'm 3-4 hours from the CA/AX/MX border. I'm interested in taking my mother to Puerto Peñasco. Has anyone gone there?

Trying to connect with a man who returned my son's wallet

My son dropped his wallet in the P83 Harkins parking lot last night, Thur 5/21 in Peoria.

A man came to our door at 11:30pm to return it. I was very annoyed that someone was ringing my doorbell at 11:30pm, and I know I sounded SO rude when I answered our Ring doorbell. Before I could apologize for my tone, the man walked away quickly.

This man went out of his way to find our house and return my son's wallet. He didn't have to do that and we really appreciate it.

If that person is on Reddit, or if any of you know this person, I would like to get into contact with him.

CONSTANT bell ringing

Gus the Bus will be 2 in October. We used the potty bell in the beginning and he picked it up really quick. Did he utilize it to go out to potty? No.

This guy rings the bell incessantly. I tune it out the first couple rings. Then I get up to go to the door where he is standing, and open it and he RUNS AWAY! Nine out of ten times this happens.

When he eventually decides he wants to go outside, getting him to come back in is a whole ordeal. You tell him to come inside and he just stands there and stares at you. We shut the door. Walk away. Come back in two minutes. Same situation. By the third time he's AT the door, staring. And he will ever so slowly waddle inside.

It's the same thing with his constant squeaks. He squeaks and squeaks to be pet. Or he squeaks because he wants to be up on the couch. Then we go to boost him up and he runs away!

What is with this dog?!

Graduation season is upon us. My oldest, MIL favorite golden grandchild, who can do no wrong, whom she manipulates into being her "ally", whom she tries her damnedest to turn against me, is graduating from HS.

Now this child is my mini me. From day one, this child and I have butt heads. He has FINALLY started to move past the teenage attitude phase.

PSA: teenagers are horrible people! I would take a screaming toddler or newborn any day all day over a teenager!

My MIL has spent 19 years undermining our parenting, making condescending comments, passive aggressive comments and having temper tantrums. It is her way or the highway. If anyone in the family doesn't agree with her, doesn't do what she says, or isn't on "her side" she uses emotional manipulation as punishment.

Here's an example; last month, the golden grandchild and I were in San Diego, visiting my family. It was just the two of us. We were walking on the beach eating ice cream. He pounds his ice cream before I'm even halfway done with mine. I'm like damn dude! Did you even taste it??!?! He says, "ya know Mom...I like your side of the family more than dads. I don't have to watch what I say. And if I finish eating before anyone, it's ok!" I said huh?? "Last time I spent the night at Grandma's I finished eating before her and she got really mad. She said now she had to eat alone and she refused to talk to me for the rest of the night!!!"

Last year, the woman turned a regular family dinner that everyone on his side of the family attended (that I didn't go to) into a birthday celebration for my older kid. He got balloons, she brought a gift bag, a card, and a cake that said, "Happy Birthday (kids name)". She brought my youngest son, whose birthday is 4 days after my oldest, a card. Two other grandkids were there as well. One got NOTHING. The other one, who doesn't live in our state, also got a gift bag. No one said a fucking word to her about any of this. I was LIVID.

Shortly after this, I was informed by my niece, my MIL has said I have been "disrespectful to her since day one" (because I don't go along or agree with everything she says, because I don't accept her unsolicited 50+ year old antiquated parenting advice). She has never liked me. That I am a problem. I am THE problem in the family. I am a horrible mother. I create problems for my older child.

I got tired of hearing my husband make excuses for her..."that's just the way she is...she's old and lonely....". It's unfortunate my husband's father died when he was so young. But it isn't my problem that the woman is old and lonely. And being old and lonely is never an excuse for shitty behavior.

"I will talk to her". Her behavior continued. So she got banned. I've been NC with her for almost a year.

I plan on sending graduation announcements out to the entire world because I am SO proud my son is graduating. That bitch isn't getting one. My husband is welcome to send one, but he won't, because he isn't that way and won't even think of it. And I'm certainly not going to remind him.

I want my son to have a fabulous graduation. I know he wants everyone there, especially her. I'm not inviting her. I'm not going to tolerate her. I REFUSE to be anywhere near my MIL. How the hell do I navigate this with my mama's boy husband?
