I’m building a context-aware pie menu for After Effects

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a plugin called Wedge.

It’s basically a context-aware pie menu for After Effects, kind of inspired by how pie menus feel in Blender and Maya.

I’ve used Blender quite a bit, and one thing I always liked was how fast those menus feel. After Effects has a lot of things I do again and again, but somehow I’m still opening panels, right clicking, searching menus, or using random scripts for small stuff.

So I wanted to build something that feels more natural inside AE.

Also, this is not really meant to compete with Quick Menu or replace every launcher type plugin. The main thing here is context. Wedge honors what you have selected, and only shows actions that actually make sense for that selection.

With Wedge, you press one shortcut and the menu opens right at your cursor. What shows up depends on what you have selected. Keyframes, masks, shape layers, text layers, comps, etc.

So the idea is not to make another huge panel. I’m trying to make something that stays out of the way and only shows the tools that make sense in that moment.

Right now I’m looking for beta testers, or just people who use AE a lot and are open to giving honest feedback. What feels useful, what feels stupid, what should be added, what should not exist at all.

You can check it here and register. I will reach out to you!

vibe coding reddit is so funny

Saw someone say they found a way to bypass the claude 5 hour limit by using opus on microsoft azure

bro, that’s just the api

that’s not a loophole that’s literally how the product works

same energy as “i discovered you can save context in a markdown file”

real programmers reading this must be like

what the fuck are these people discovering

and i say this as one of them

i also learned what env variables are like 2 months ago lol

Snippet from a SaaS explainer video

Finally got to upload this work that I did back in November. This was done for the launch of an Ai chatbot. I had been working with this client for over 5 years now and it’s been an amazing journey.

Some practice work after a long time

Hello people,

So I did some shape animations and tried to do the simple stuff first. its been sometime since I have done any practice work. Lately its just been all about client work and you know the adult life.

I really want to move away from client work for sometime and focus on learning more about what motion design especially the kind of work great artists like Emanuele Colombo , Ben Marriot etc do.

I released a extension last month on aescripts and it was such a nice feeling. People really liked it and I got really good feedback from the users so I am working on the next extension for which I will be opening closed beta soon ( Look out for that ).

Let me know how you like the animation I did!

After effects / Motion design social media content - Discussion thread

What kind of after effects / motion design content you would want to see from your favourite creators? I’m planning to get into the content side but don’t want to repeat what’s being done already, so I was just curious what kind of content you feel is missing?

I made a video explaining the precomp duplication problem I was trying to solve, would love feedback

Hey everyone,

I made a short video explaining the exact precomp duplication workflow issue I was trying to solve with DeepCopy.

https://aescripts.com/deepcopy/

The idea is simple: show the manual way first, where you duplicate from the Project panel and bring/replace it back in the Timeline, then show the shortcut workflow.

Quick note on the True Comp Duplicator comparison because it’s fair.

The broad goal is similar: duplicating precomps properly. I’ve used TCD for a long time and it genuinely helped a lot of AE users, including me. Not trying to trash it.

DeepCopy exists because I kept hitting workflow limits: TCD is mainly Project panel based, I couldn’t run it directly from a shortcut, and I still had to manually bring/replace things back into the Timeline panel. Expression updates were also hit or miss for me in some controller setups.

DeepCopy works from both the Timeline panel and Project panel, runs from a shortcut, and the panel can stay hidden while you work. It also has more advanced filtering for nested comps.

So yes, similar problem space. Different workflow.

I’d genuinely like feedback on whether the problem and solution are clear in the video

Also happy to give a few 1-year licenses to people who can test it properly and share honest feedback.

DeepCopy Discussion Thread

Hey everyone,

I’m the creator of DeepCopy.

DeepCopy is now live on aescripts:
https://aescripts.com/deepcopy/

I’m making this thread mainly for feedback and discussion

If you’ve tried DeepCopy or are curious about it, feel free to use this thread for:

  • Questions about how it works
  • Workflow feedback
  • Bug reports or weird edge cases
  • Feature requests
  • Suggestions on what could be clearer in the docs/tutorials

DeepCopy was built to make true precomp duplication faster inside After Effects. It works from both the Timeline panel and Project panel, and can run through a shortcut, so you don’t need to keep opening the panel while working.

If you report a bug, please include:

  • After Effects version
  • OS
  • DeepCopy version
  • What you selected before running it
  • What you expected vs what happened

For account, payment, or installation issues, aescripts support is still the best place:
https://aescripts.com/contact/

I’m actively reading feedback and improving things, so honest criticism is welcome too.

Thanks to everyone who tried the beta, tested it, or gave feedback earlier. It genuinely helped shape the final version.

I built this for AE users like us

Hey everyone,

A while back I posted here asking for beta testers for DeepCopy. Thanks to everyone who tried it, gave feedback, or showed interest.

The final version is now live on aescripts.

I first built DeepCopy for myself because duplicating precomps properly in After Effects was more annoying than it should be.

It lets you select a precomp in the timeline or project panel, hit a shortcut, and create a true independent duplicate in place. No manually finding the comp, duplicating it, renaming it, and replacing it back.

It also supports nested comps and filters if you only want specific things to be duplicated.

There’s a trial on aescripts, so you don’t have to buy it. Just test it once and see if it fits your workflow.

Would genuinely love feedback.
