Songs with parts that sound inspired by devo?

I was listening to an old Hot Chip record and thought to myself - that guitar riff sounds very Devo.

Is there a list of songs that have some Devo inspired musical motifs or sounds - not sampling Devo - but very Devo like?

There's a few guitar burst that sound very Bob1 inspired to me- they start at 2:07.

Can a novice use a trekking pole tent? What's the learning curve?

I got a little extra money and I'm thinking about going 'ultralight' on my Big 3 items - but to get much lighter than my Durston X-Dome 1+ I have to go with a trekking pole tent - and I'm nervous about it.

I've recently backpacked in

  • San Jacinto
  • Crystal Cove Laguna Beach
  • Yosemite
    • Little Yosemite Valley
    • Volgelsang
    • Glenn Aulin
    • May Lake
    • Sunrise Lakes
    • Merced Lake
    • near Cloud's rest
    • the backpackers camp in the valley
  • Trans Catalina Trail

And I'd like to go to Grand Canyon at some point.

My concern is staking a tent correctly in conditions where the ground is very hard to get stakes in - like it's very rocky or very uneven, or very windy.

Are there good tips on how to switch from freestanding to one you have to stake out?

I think saving a pound of weight would be worth it - but I'm concerned that I'll buy a tent and won't be able to get it pitched in certain areas or have a miserable time.

(Tent recommendations would be welcome too - I think Gossamer Gear One is easily in my budget - or even a Zpacks is in my budget if I push it and sell my Durston and my Big Agnes.Let's treat money as a secondary concern.)

Hey jerks, put the fireworks down

I don’t know how many people this is happening to, but the jerks in my neighborhood, 92120, are still shooting off fireworks and still scaring my pets.

Seriously, cut it out jerks!!

Point6 Merino Wool Socks 50 Percent Off First Order

Point6.com is running a promo when you visit their cart page.

Go to: https://point6.com/

A popup will appear asking you to “join the flock.” When you enter your email, you get 50 percent off your first order.

Free shipping on orders over 79.

This drops most of their Merino wool socks to about 13 dollars each, which is very cheap for high quality Merino socks.

I have used Point6 socks for about five years. They have held up well, and when I did get holes in a couple pairs their warranty support was easy. They swapped them out for new ones with no hassle.

Point6 socks are very well reviewed. On Reddit they are often mentioned alongside Darn Tough and Smartwool. The founders of Point6 actually started Smartwool before selling it in the early 2000s. Quality is comparable across all three brands.

I have no affiliation with the company and there is no buried referral code in this post - it's just the socks I use and thought people might want to know they are 50% off.

Shakedown advice for Trans Catalina Trail?

Links to LighterPack: https://lighterpack.com/r/a3vjo4

  • Base Weight: 13.92 lb
  • Consumable: 14.13 lb
  • Total 28.05 lb

Not negotiable: I have to keep the clothes - extra underwear and socks and camp clothes really make me enjoy the trip more.

Ideas I had:
Replace 20,000 (324g) charger with a 10,000 instead (212g).

Leave wall plug behind (92g).

Leave The Gossamer Gear Thinlight Foam (94g) - but I like putting it under my air paid to prevent possible cuts. Seems worth it for under 3 ounces.

Take less food - I could plan on eating on the trail - Avalon, the Airport and Two Harbors all have restaurants. I could leave 3 meals out or around 500g.

I have water weight included in consumables - I will see if I cna carry less during the hike - but I'm planning on being safe.

Other ideas - but cost money:

Get a lighter tent - and Xdome 1+ could save 600g (1lb 5 oz) - but it's not in stock and would cost around $419 + shipping.

Where can I get weather information for the interior of Catalina?

We're going to hike the TCT this Saturday and I can find the weather for Avalon - which is on the coast - but I'm curious if there are weather stations I can check for the interior of the island like the hike to Black Jack or Two Harbors where your inland? I'd image they'd be much hotter.

Thanks for any help - I did Google and ChatGPT it but all they suggested was Airport weather and that seems to match Avalon for me.

I was promised a refund but my emails are not being answered

I worked with Visible Executive Relations for over two months to get my phone fully unlocked and they were not able to do it and I was asking for two months of service to be refunded (the time the phone was trying to get unlocked) , but they promised at least one month of service to be refunded in email and never the refund never came even after replying to the email thread and asking multiple times.

Can customer service here help?

What’s the cheapest way to get popcorn and soda?

I just joined A-list and now I’m trying to find the cheapest strategy to buy popcorn

I know if you go on Tuesdays and Wednesdays there’s some sort of deal, but I’m I’m going today.

The cheapest I can find is buying a popcorn and a soda coupon on Groupon for around $11 for both. Those get you regular popcorn and regular soda.

I’m not sure if a list would upgrade those to large or not.

I live in San Diego, so I don’t think you can buy the yearly bucket, and if I bought the popcorn pass, then I’d still have to pay for the popcorn, but it would just be half price. That would mean the soda would be full price.

Does anybody have a great strategy to minimize the amount, assuming I can’t watch a movie without popcorn and soda?
