Questions for new user

I just ordered my first Android (Samsung Z Fold 8 Ultra if that matters) and I’m coming from being an Apple user for 15+ years.

I want to use open bubbles to keep iMessage and FaceTime and have a couple questions:

  1. Can I just use Open Bubbles only for texting? My parents are boomers and aren’t gonna download a separate app or learn to use anything new. I want to be able to have my daughter facetime them but also want to be able to text my husband who is on an android within the same app. Do I have to have 2 different apps?

  2. I don’t have a Mac so I know I’ll have to pay the monthly - not a big deal and I’m fine with that as long as the functionality is there…. How’s it work when you’re not self-hosting?

  3. Is there anything else I need to know to get it all set up correctly?

I’m pretty tech savvy but swapping from Apple to Android for the first time is going to be foreign to me so I’m trying to figure things out before the new phone arrives!

$22 a month?

My carrier is running a deal on the Fold 11 for $22 a month with no trade in or anything - the Samsung 8 Ultra is only $15 a month on this same promotion…why is this one higher priced even though the Ultra has better camera specs?

Apple to Android Walk-Thru?

Is there something that exists that will tell me what I need to do to switch from Apple to Android specifically? I know there’s Samsung Switch, but for instance - I have subscriptions to things (CapCut is one) that I have going thru my Apple account - how do those switch over??

I can figure out most things on my own, but I kinda wish there was like a ‘switching for dummies’ checklist to make sure I don’t forget anything.

Photo Organization

I need to remove thousands of photos from my iPhone for storage purposes - I want to keep them off my phone completely. Would I just use Google Drive? Or what’s the best option for this? I wanna be able to organize pics into folders and all that, but I have a gazillion old pics I just want to eliminate from my phone altogether.

Cricut Joy 2 Accessories

I just got a Cricut Joy 2 today, and I’m wondering about the best accessories for it - any recs? I literally haven’t even opened the box yet 😅 I will most likely be using it both at home and with my mom too, so I’ll definitely need a carrying bag but aside from that - what do I need?

Brother Scan & Cut

Someone is selling a Brother Scan & Cut near me for $50… she’s saying it was brand new and that someone gave it to her grandma, but her grandma has never used and they are clearing out her home to move into a retirement community. The photo shows it’s the CM100 which I know is quite dated - is it worth it?
