Have I found a reasonable use for river pebbles?
First of all please no comments on my general lawn health. I resent having to dedicate brain space to looking after grass but improvements are in the pipeline. This is the first yard I've owned and it's a learning curve.
On to the main point. This place had a bunch of pebbles scattered all over it that we've been cleaning up and replacing with mulch and whatever so I've got a substantial pile of them. My house has these zones against the North and West facing walls where basically nothing grows. The wall reflects too much heat, the eaves keep the rain off it (at least on the North side, they are much shorter on the West), and the ground slopes away from the house so water doesn't hang around. The ground is actually cracked here it's so dry. You can see some Kikuyu breaking through there but it's doomed once the weather starts getting consistently warm.
The rest of the house I'm keeping a narrow dirt gap between the mulch gardens and the air gaps in the wall because I'm paranoid about termites, but they're hidden by the garden. These sides are pretty uggo. So I'm thinking a narrow border with some of my surplus stones in it. The heat should keep the weeds out and it should be low maintenance and prettier to look at. Maybe chuck in some sporadic succulents.
Any reason I shouldn't do it?
