Gastroparesis and Buspar

Anyone had added motility issues or it made their nausea , constipation , GI issues worse? Even at the lowest dose possible?

Dr wants to start Buspar due to the crippling anxiety at a low dose. But it’s not the gastro writing the script. I don’t think most psych drs are aware of how a lot of medications affect us.

I had a gene sight study done- I’m slow COMT met / Met variant. So limited on lots of psych meds.

Thanks

Vagus Nerve question

I’ve seen a couple of people here that believe their vagus nerve is the cause of their GP.

All I’ve ever heard from gastro’s how important the function is.

Is this something the surgeon could have damaged during a surgery? Would they know immediately? Medications? Autoimmune diseases etc?

How did you figure it out or suspect?

And since all of us have GP, is all ours damaged to some degree?

Would just like some insight, thoughts on it.

Need some advice

I badly need some direction. I feel like I’m caught up in the battle of which Dr is correct and which is not. There seems to be a consensus of them not agreeing and it’s effecting my treatment plan and mental health.

Last April I was hospitalized for gastritis, ulcers etc. they suspected GP but no testing.

Months go by. Plethora of acid reducing meds, anxiety meds etc.

Sept- finally a standard gastric emptying scan done at the hospital. Clear. But close to borderline.

October- pill cam. Showed inflammation. Camera did not get “ hung up” in the stomach.

Nov- upper endoscopy. I had fasted at least 12 hours but the instruction was to fast after midnight. But I had a feeling food was still in my stomach. Upon waking up- You HAVE GASTROPARESIS. I saw food in the stomach.

He has me do a Gastric emptying BREATH test to confirm- moderate Gastropresis was the result.

He drops me as a patient. He doesn’t do motility problems and said I don’t have anyone to refer you to.

I look for a motility dr. Found one. The first visit was a mess. They kept telling me it’s probably sibo. Sent me to the ER. I was in pain, vomiting in their office. After waiting hours, we just left.

I go to my trusty primary dr. He sends me to another GI dr. This one is in his 70’s and has probably seen everything that can wrong with your digestive system. Showed him all the labs, scans, results etc. He told me he had no idea how to read the gastric breath test emptying results. Uh- okay.

So one GI says, GP, one thinks sibo and the current one says I don’t understand the gastric breath test results, does his own endoscopy and says “ gastritis “ and no Gastroparesis cause no food was in the stomach. Uh- last I checked that’s not the gold standard on how you get truly diagnosed for GP.

His follow up isn’t until OCTOBER.

So this week my primary puts me back on Reglan.

I don’t know what the hell to do or who to believe.

Help.

Adderall side effect?

Good afternoon,

I’m already on Wellbutrin 150 mg once a day. I could not handle the bump to 300. So my dr added 5 mg Adderall. I asked to go low and slow. I feel more aggravated and have just about completely stopped talking. BUT my brain is not having the racing thoughts. It’s calm. So there is a plus. But I’m in the beginning of this med.

Anyone else have issues being on Wellbutrin and Adderall? Is it a dose thing?

Is this normal for Adderall ?

Been taking Wellbutrin for a year and a half. We just added Adderall 2 weeks ago. 5 mg. My choice to go low and slow. I take it at 9 am. So early in the day. I feel so flat, emotionally numb. I don’t speak the entire day unless I absolutely have to. I’m also tired. Will say I’ve been under extreme physical stress. This med has stopped the racing thoughts completely. Is this just the “ start” side effects of this med ?

Thanks for any input.

Dosage change question

Hello,
Been on Wellbutrin XL 150mg for a year and a half. No problems. Maybe I feel hot more than the normal person but livable. Saw the Dr last week, decided to up it 300mg. The side effects have been horrible. More mentally than physically at the moment. Panic type anxiety, restless, agitated. The dr just said expect headaches, some nausea.

I know you can’t cut the pill in half.

Anyone else can’t do the higher dose.

I have slow COMT. Met / Met variant.

Thoughts?

Treatment options

Good Afternoon Everyone,

Have gastroparesis. This is the second time in 8 years. Wondering if anybody has been to the Mayo Clinic GI clinic in Florida recently? My issues are GP, severe gastritis, ulcers nausea etc.

Your experience? Avoid? Try to go? Other options?

Update and a question

Good evening everyone! TGIF.

I just got my results from my GEBT this week. If you have not gone this route, I had an excellent company my gastro used for the emptying test IN YOUR HOME.

I found out my instincts were right - moderate to severe gastroparesis. 14 plus months of suffering. With that said, last year we found out I had ulcers, gastritis etc.

I was recently in the ER and that was a complete shit show and was before I knew my gastric emptying results. No relief was offered. I had to ASK.

Moving forward , I’m trying Carafate again. Seems to be doing okay.

But now we just added 5mg of Reglan. Holy hell. I feel like trash. It’s only been two days! Dosing is take a Carafate right before my “ largest” meal which is in the pm. One hr before eating. Then 30 mins before eating- take the REGLAN.

I cut off eating at 7:30 pm.

I’m exhausted when I hit the bed BUT wake up 4-5 am like I drank a pot of coffee. Restless. Anxiety is up. Nauseated. Acidic in the back of the mouth. Reflux.

For those who know about COMT. I have slow COMT met / Met variant.

From what I understand- Regan effects dopamine.

I’m hoping this is just a transition / adjustment to the meds. It is speeding up transit ? I think.

Side note I had “ ideopathic GP” from 2016-2018. I just wanted to die. It just went away after 2 years. And here we are, GP AGAIN. Didn’t even know this was possible.

Anyone else in this boat?

Has anyone had the new Gastric Emptying Breath Test?

Hello Everyone, Happy Wednesday.

I have my GEBT ready for tomorrow. I do like the connivence of being home but wonder about the accuracy.

I’ve had 4 regular GES in the hospital over the last 10 years. So I know how that works.

My last was done in Sept. in hospital. Normal.

But this past Nov on the upper endo- food still seen in stomach from 14+ hrs before.

Would like to hear from others who have had this new way of testing.

Thanks

Gastroparesis and Viseral Hypetsensitivity?

Anybody else in this same boat? We have tried multiple meds. NOTHING has helped. GI is blowing me off.

Pain is so much worse when sitting. So I sit on one hip mostly. Standing and laying help relieve some of the pain.

Eating makes it worse.

Can’t take Motrin or NSAIDS due to ulcer.

The pain is odd in a sense. Feels like it’s the stomach pouch area. And the exact same spot in the back.

Anybody else have the same? Was it even V H?

Before I go into all the medical and why-

DO ANY OF YOU SUSPECT something else is going on in addition to your gastropresis ?

Ex: Nausea is presenting differently? Auto- immune component? Came out of remission? Knowing or not knowing your cause and YOU suspect something different or in addition to what tests and a DR have said.

Who has or suspects MCAS? Histamine problems?

Wanted to follow up my other post about G poem surgery and ask if anyone has been to Mayo. Specifically the one in Jacksonville. My GI dr who’s in private practice seems to be passing me off.

I live in the South. Georgia / Alabama region. Was curious of any experiences or recommendations of outstanding care for this.

Will say when I looked up Mayo in Florida, the reviews were horrible and several were recent. Yes, I know everywhere is not perfect but I was surprised to see so many. Has something changed in their GI care?

Thoughts on Cleveland and others? Emory?

Background- 48 F. Had idiopathic gastroparesis from 2016-2018. Absolutely hell. Vomiting, pain, the whole ordeal.

Then one day in 2018. Just stops. No more pain. Miracle.

2025- start of “ gastro” symptoms. First upper endo showed severe gastritis, bleeding gastric ulcers, polyps, some nausea. Fullness after eating. Etc. This was April 2025.

May- colon scope. I asked for biopsies of mast cells as we were suspecting MCAS. They were elevated but nothing too crazy. Inflammation.

July- c. Diff. Fun times.

Sept- pill cam- inflammation.

October- stomach empty scan. Fine.

Nov- second upper endo. Gastritis. And the small meal I ate 16 hrs before still in the stomach. Diagnosis- gastropresis.

So all of last yr and into today- gastritis, bloated after eating, siting is a nightmare, driving, eating seated- pain. Slight nausea. Smells really set off the nausea. The pain is the stomach “pouch” and hurts exactly in the same spot on the backside.

Email gastro who’s in another town twice in the last 3 weeks- about dealing with all this still.

Uh- I’m referring you to a surgeon who does G- Poem surgery. What?!?

I’m here thinking visceral sensitivity? Compressed nerve? Autoimmune something?

Thoughts?

Dr went out of the country. These went straight to my portal. 47 F. Chronic GI issues. Gastropresis, gastric ulcers, MCAS suspicion. Not Diabetic. Yet. Liver enzymes and kidney function were normal.
