Ypsopump: teflon vs steel cannulas?

Hey everyone,

I started with the YpsoPump as my first pump about 3–4 months ago. My main issue right now is that I get quite a strong reaction at my pump sites. I think it has gotten a bit better as my body got used to the new insulin I was put on (Fiasp), but the inflammation still happens, sometimes even leading to scarring.

To minimize tissue damage, I treat the sites with Bepanthen and zinc cream. I also started changing my catheters every second day now instead of every third day as recommended. This helped tremendously in reducing the inflammation. I’ve already talked to my diabetes team about this, and they managed to help me get a higher supply quantity covered by my insurance so I can change the sites more frequently.

Did any of you experience similar problems? I know some people say these issues are Fiasp-related, but I really like the insulin and its reactiveness in combination with my pump’s algorithm, so I’d love to avoid switching to a different insulin if possible.

What about steel cannulas, could making the switch help in my case? I am also wondering if these grayish skin areas (which I assume is scarring) can lead to worse insulin absorption down the line? Since I’m still pretty new to pump therapy, I really want to stick with it as long as possible. My main concern is just that I might end up with too much damaged tissue in a few years to use a pump effectively. (insulin absorption etc.)

Any advice on this? I know I should discuss this with my medical team, but if I’m honest, I feel like my concerns aren't really being taken seriously by them.

Was meint ihr?
