Care package, support for breast cancer

Hey!

My Mum (60) has just been diagnosed with breast cancer. A huge shock to us all as we were told the tumour wasn’t sinister but that’s a different story.

She’s due to have surgery in hospital next week and I’d like to do something to make her time in the hospital more comfortable. I unfortunately won’t be able to be there with her because I am 21 weeks pregnant & can’t be around her when she has the dye inserted.

What kind of things did you appreciate? I asked her and she said she wanted absolutely nothing just a phone call every so often. I have my grandads Padre Pio coin that she passed to me when I was going into labour with my first but maybe that’s a bit much. I’m definitely over thinking this but want to be practical in my approach to support her.

Heart palpitations - 20 weeks

Hey all,

I’m 20 weeks and having heart palpitations, shortness of breath and weakness. It was getting particularly bad so made appointment to see GP this morning. He checked blood pressure, heart rate, lungs and all appeared good. He said blood pressure was a little high but not concerning.
He’s sending me to MAU for more tests, mainly blood tests & possible ECG. He advised not to go until tomorrow morning so I’m not waiting around a long time.

Has anyone had symptoms like this? I’m worried because all was normal at GP, the hospital will dismiss how I’m feeling but I am feeling pretty rough. I’m an anxious person in general & take sertraline but GP said anxiety palpitations present differently. I’m afraid they’ll see me in the hospital and think I’m over exaggerating my symptoms or I’m wasting their time.

Mr Golden Sun, please shine down on me!

Where I am we having this awful continuous misty rain. Can’t do anything in it. I miss the sun. I’m miserable. Had to mute two group chats who are taking great delight in the change in weather this morning. Not ok with a whole week of this.

When to worry about bumping bump?

Hey everyone.

I’m 18 + 5, out shopping this morning I stupidly banged the trolley into a shelf and then hit my belly/very small bump off the trolley. It hurt at the time but there’s no pain or bleeding or anything.

I’m extremely anxious this pregnancy due to it being my little rainbow baby but also don’t want to be running into a&e for every little thing. But that’s my question, is this a little thing? How protected is baby in there? I don’t feel regular movements yet but think I’ve felt a few flutters since the bang.

Any thoughts be much appreciated for a tired and anxious mama to be ❤️

Bleeding at 16 weeks - TW

TW - bleeding and mention of loss.

I had a very sudden and quite severe bleed in the early hours of Sunday morning, I went straight to a&e and subsequently had a stay over night in the maternity unit. The care I received was second to none so I am so thankful for that however I have no answers.

Baby is ok - strong heartbeat and movements - but they couldn’t tell me what the bleeding was. The bleeding settled & I just have brown discharge now. Midwife’s & consultants are all happy for me to wait until my anatomy scan in 3 weeks for a more detailed look. I had a loss earlier in the year at 8 weeks so I’m not gunna lie but I’m spiralling so much. I was reassured that all is ok, but I can’t stop myself worrying.

Has anyone been here before? Sudden bleed that doesn’t have an obvious cause? I’m so upset & possibly a wee bit traumatised after the whole thing.

Constantly Hungry

Ladies I am 16 weeks pregnant and I cannot stop eating. I feel like I’m constantly munching. I’m quite varied with my diet and I’m eating as healthy as I can. I’ll have fruits, yogurts & granola, I cannot get enough of sandwiches and then in the evenings I’m grazing at savoury things - crackers, pretzels. I made bolognaise yesterday and literally had two huge portions.

I had an antenatal app yesterday & the midwife wasn’t concerned about my weight - but I’m wondering if I should be. It’s mental I went from first trimester not being able to eat a single thing to this.

Book recommendations for new baby arriving soon?

Hey all 😌

What books did you read to your little one when you or your partner were expecting another baby? My LO is 3.5 and she loves books & her routine of a bedtime story so think this will be a special way to introduce the idea of a baby in the house to her. I’ve looked every time we’re in the library but nothing has stood out.

TIA

Recommended security cameras?

Hey all! Some little sh1tbag tried to break into the cars in our estate last night - neighbours got them on their camera. So I’m now in the market for our own cameras.

I’m looking for something that’s not too expensive, easy to install and connects to your phone via an app. I am absolutely useless at this kind of thing and I had a look an Amazon but hadn’t a clue what I was looking at.

TIA - also remember to lock your cars!

Headaches 14 weeks

Hey all ❤️

I am 14 weeks and for the last week or so I have had the most intense headaches. I’ve managed mostly to push through but it’s gotten so bad that my eyes are sore. I know I can take paracetamol, and I took yesterday but I’m cautious about taking too many, I’m also on 50mg Sertraline so a bit iffy about any more medication.

I’m looking for home remedies, tips or any suggestions that worked for you? TIA x

Hey all, I’m 12 weeks 4 days & the nausea has finally subsided and my appetite is back with a vengeance. I just had prawns (ready cooked, cold) in a salad. I completely forgot myself. I’m not worried I’m pretty sure I ate muscles during my first pregnancy but I decided to look up foods I should avoid and I did not expect it to be that long of a list. Runny poached eggs and 99 ice creams? God that’s tough.

Anyway, my favourite food at the moment is those chicken & bacon Caesar wraps you get in the shops , also to be avoided. What are the chances of listeria really like? I understand the guidelines & all that but what are the actual risks.
