Possibly dumb question, but how's the 12" in 2026? Is it the right device for my use case?
Between a gift card I've been sitting on, and trading in my old SQ1, I can get the 512gb 16gb 12-inch (just the device) for $600 out of pocket (I'll get the keyboard later). This is the cheapest I've seen it for a while, especially since the recent price increase.
Use case:
-Lots of web browsing, zoom, youtube, netflix etc. Maybe discord.
-Lots of reading and marking up pdfs with the pen, specifically sheet music; orchestral scores I'll be conducting from, lead sheets, and so on.
-Microsoft Office apps, almost entirely word and excel.
-Maybe magic the gathering arena if it runs okay.
-Has to last several years, ideally 8+. I'm very careful with my electronics, physically at least.
That's it. No heavy animating, no heavy gaming. It'll be my secondary device for teaching and rehearsals, and I've got my nice desktop at home. My all-time most important thing in phones and computers is that it has to be super snappy, I can't stand lag. I'm aware of the restrictions that come with ARM computers since I've had my SQ1, but that one in particular always felt slow to me, even using native apps. I wonder if that's just my fault for buying an 8gb RAM device in the 2020's.
Does it seem like this is the right device for my use case? Is 16gb enough for the device to feel snappy, responsive, and smooth for years to come? Does the original slim pen charge correctly on the back of this device or would I have to upgrade to the slim pen 2? Is there a reason you WOULDN'T recommend this device?
Thanks in advance everyone :)
