Soundpeats Pop Clips 2 (aka UU2) - Hear the Bass, and your Surroundings

This is the review of the Soundpeats Pop Clip 2, (or UU2 – name inspired by their U-shaped looks), which were sent to me by Soundpeats through their official community early testing program. I received the black variant of the UU2. I would also like to state that prior to this, I’ve never used Clip-on styled earbuds before, and the UU2 are the first experience of its kind.

At first, with the unboxing, there’s no surprise as it appears to be like all their other packages. No rattling, sealed and snug fit inside, are the earbuds wrapped with thin white plastic to protect aesthetics. Once unwrapped, you are greeted with a very smooth to touch housing case for clip-ons, which Sundpeats claims is with UVnano Excimer coating. This is by far one of smoothest earbuds cases I’ve handled – coming from some premium and budget ones in the past – which the company claims are also water-repellent & stain-resistant, and pretty light-weight. In addition to some guidance literature and the usual adorable panda stickers, Soundpeats also provides USB-C charging cable inside. Don’t expect to find any ear-tips inside, well because they don’t need any as they do not enter the ear-canals.

Moving on to the design of the UU2, they are glossy from the bridge to the ball that houses the 12mm dual-magnet driver that rests in the ear. The other end of the U-bridge holds the power circuitry, and features Bluetooth 6.0. This is the part that rests behind the ear and has a matte finishing with soundpeats written on it. There’s a small hole located above which I believe is one of the mics.  It’s a bit on the chunkier side, so finding the right angle to lock in place will take some adjusting. But once locked, it stays put. The clip-ons are quite light weight as well and don’t feel wearing you down. They also feature a physical button on each earbud which can also be configured to your liking, though I think default settings are quite intuitive and work well. This is a welcome addition as I find this more practical for my use case especially when in the gym with sweat building up.

Sound quality is where these clip-ons shine. I did not expect the sound, especially the bass to be that audible. Now it will vary based on the ambient sound around, but in quieter environments it is well received by the ears – so much so that the thumping can make you want to move to the beats. I thought the bass will be heard, but its more than that, it can be felt. And this is above expectations when it’s coupled with LDAC playback from the phone. The bass remains but also adds great amount of details from mids and highs resulting in a good listening experience. All this is courtesy of the large 12mm dual-magnet driver that moves more air creating that thumping bass audible to the ears. Certain settings from the Soundpeats app need to be adjusted to get the best experience though. I did get feedback from folks around of sound leakage – but this can also be reduced by turning on the Privacy Mode.

Dynamic EQ is a hit or miss. I do think that this may fix in the future with updates, but while I was on the latest firmware update offered by the app, it didn’t impress. The sound came through muffled, even after trying many different genres of music, apps with high res audio and environments. The bass just kicked in a lot more than other frequencies and didn’t really let me enjoy the music. I definitely prefer using the earbuds with this feature turned off, for now.

Battery and charging are highly rated features on the UU2s. Soundpeats claims that the battery lasts 10 hrs on its own and with the case, it can give 42 hours. I can’t verify this as my use case didn’t last more than 5 hrs of use continuously. And while taking a dinner break, the battery was back to full in no time. I did use the clip-ons with LDAC on at all times, and I guess that will cause it to fall short of the 10hrs mark. Never really got to exhaust them to low or zero battery charge, but I’m sure they last long enough to get you through the day with short charging breaks.

Mic Quality is impressive as well along with sound quality. This is one place where I thought the clip-ons will suffer, but with 2 mics (each earbud) and the AI environmental noise cancellation, the hearing party never complained. In a quiet room the sound heard was excellent, and with some background noise (TV) it still remained well audible. I tested the mic quality with a fan blowing on to my face to simulate wind noise, that’s when the hearing party complained AI kicking in, but it still remained fairly audible. Outdoors, with a single engine training plane taking off and flying by, it was only my voice that was heard by the receiver. AI noise cancellation worked well enough to cancel out those disturbances and only focus on my speaking voice. So, this is a definite plus with UU2 and frankly speaking, this allows one to keep their earbuds on for longer.

Some other features (and quirks) I would like to address:

The position of the clip-ons will affect your hearing experience, so it’s important to find the right fit and angle of positioning. Comparing with other (in-ear) earbuds, the sound blew me away, and the few extra people I had to test them out. One even compared it to their B&O earbuds to say these UU2 have much heavier bass and music details. Again, this can be subject to how well its fit on your ears.

While this is the first pair of clip-ons I’ve tried, comparing it to in-ears may sound unfair, but I’ll still do it because its more practical for my use case. And I believe for many others too who’ve been skeptical of trying on the clip-on style earbuds. My Oneplus buds 4, with LHDC activated, didn’t sound as clear as these. The quality of the mids and highs is on par with Earfun air pro 4 plus, and this, by the way, is the case with how well the clip-ons are tuned out of the box.

Comfort and fit will depend on the size of your ears! Now as the ads show that these rest behind the ear (mid-helix) of the model, my ears didn’t allow for that. I rather had to adjust it much lower and angled downward, behind the lobule (lower end of the external ear). That didn’t affect the hearing by much as all the feedback provided here is with respect to that positioning. So, the ear shape and size will affect the final positioning, however, not much on the listening experience – as other testers (friends) all gave extremely positive feedback. Now for some, again referring to the size and shape of the ears, re-adjusting the clips a few times may be required. I didn’t experience this much though, and that is through the gym sessions, walk outdoors, browsing through shorts while laying down and casual music listening while on the move.

Connectivity, and initial setup, is fairly easy. Using the Soundpeats app allows for great customizations and sound quality set ups. You also get options for customized equalizer. LDAC and Spatial Audio features can be activated here as well. In all instances of my trials, the clip-ons were connected and paired before I could put on the second earbud in. It is snappy. The left/right earbud auto assignment is a fun feature to have. It helped me occasionally allowing to swiftly place the earbuds back in case regardless of sides – they get assigned the new sides in 10 seconds.

This Open-Ear Experience does have another shortcoming. To enjoy the music in noisy environment, I had to put the volume up pretty close to maximum. That meant good sound leakage – but not enough for anyone to make out what’s playing. As far as podcasts or documentaries are concerned, it was a fairly good listening experience. I even tried ASMR videos – and yes, I felt the tingles because sound details with LDAC feels really close.

In Conclusion, these are a great pair of clip-on earbuds, serving a distinct purpose – Enjoy crisp music and thumping bass whilst being situationally aware of the environment. Placed in the budget segment, the UU2 provide absolute bang for the buck, and are currently being offered with a discount before official launch in select countries.

I’m happy to answer questions about the clip-ons and test out more features if anybody wants. Please feel free to comment. Thank you

OPW3 update, still on November 2025 Security update.

As the title states, is there something I'm missing being unable to get an update here in middle east region? I know there was an update in Feb or April, but I'm still stuck on this old one from 2025.

Are watch updates also regional?
