Humidity at Night

I’ve been having a hard time keeping the humidity down in her tank at night, even with a dehumidifier, and was really panicking especially because I saw a post saying not to let the humidity stay above 40% for more than two hours otherwise there’s a risk for bacteria/RI.

I’m trying to do more and more research and confused to how central Australia’s humidity is about as high as where I live more costal? Does that mean it will be okay to have the humidity around 50 - 55% overnight? I’m trying to look in the desert areas of Australia and most of the humidity for nighttime is saying 60 to 80%

Sidenote: I was also told by a breeder/rescue to keep the humidity around 50% because she is a silkie. I mentioned it to a vet and he seemed to agree. I’m just so nervous, as you can tell by my many posts. Omg this is so long.. I appreciate you guys 🫶 and would love any advice/experience you’ve had with humidity.

Trouble with drinking water

Kind of depressed and just want to share my disappointment with myself.

Long story short, I rescued a 12 y/o Silkie that was sick. She got antibiotics and anti-parasitic medicine and seemed to be doing better on and off.

She hasn’t gone to the bathroom in over a week so I put her in some water but in the past, she’s kind of seem to aspirate on it so I just put her in a plate filled with a little water so she wouldn’t choke. Some water came out of her nose, but I’ve looked that up in the past and it said post bath that can happen occasionally as long as it’s clear and not bubbling, it should be fine. However, yesterday she spit out a little water after drinking when she went to eat. I should have tipped her like I’ve done in the past, but I felt like since she was constipated and dehydrated I didn’t want her to lose the water. This morning when I picked her up, she breathed heavy out of her nose and I’m worried that she’s going to get sick. I’m going to make a vet appointment for maybe early next week since she’s not breathing heavy or opening her mouth. I’m hoping it’s not urgent since she’s not showing any signs yet. I just feel so bad because she’s older and has been to the vet four times in the past two months which stresses her out. I’ve been trying so hard to help rehab her, but I almost feel like I’m making things worse. :(

Should I not let her drink water anymore and just spray greens instead? How can I keep her hydrated without putting her in water since she seems to choke even when it’s a minuscule amount?

Must be sleeping good 🤣

FYI she ate a bunch of Jurassic sand, so I’m using reptile carpet and paper towels for now 🙃

Preferred greens?

Let me preface by saying that I know the silkie morph can be kind of a cruel way to live, but it’s a rescue Beardie that pretty much only had dried mealworms, so I’m trying to introduce her to some greens. Seems like she only likes arugula right now. Didn’t seem interested in mustard greens, dandelion greens, or collard greens. Curious to see what some other beardies like in their daily diet.

PS: I’m soaking her every other day, but let me know if you have any recommendations on moisturizer. I’ve been trying to do research and see that people use Uddery Smooth, but I wasn’t sure because it has fragrance in it.

What’s she doing?

I feel like she always does this kind of stuff after she drinks water. Not sure if that’s normal or if she doesn’t know how to drink water the right way lol

Wanted to share a positive update since I was bombarding subs with questions 🤣 a little more active after getting antibiotics yesterday, so I think that’s a good sign. Hopefully she’ll eat and drink a little today but I’m going to say it’s a good thing that she’s not as lethargic!

I know you guys are probably sick of me, so I apologize. I bought pretty much all of these and I’m wondering what people have had the most success with for night time.

Also, what the hell is wrong with the terrarium? I’m fostering this lizard hopefully back to health. She’s really old so I’m trying to make her comfortable. I bought new sand, temp and hygrometer gauges, basking lamp, and UV. The humidity is getting so high at night in there, but it’s a metal/screen top. I’m getting a dehumidifier now and hoping that helps. Also do I need a heater under the cage or some sort of insulation. It’s a flat bottom, so I don’t know how I would even do that lol

If you are a seasoned owner or even a new owner, that knows better than me. I would love to hear your advice on set ups and how you are maintaining low humidity. You guys are the best. I appreciate you!

My terrarium is getting a little too humid at night, glass with a mesh top. Humidity seems to drop if I open the door, but how do I combat the temperature dropping? Would it be one of those Non lighting heat lamps or ceramic heater thingies lol? Appreciate you in advance!
