Would U answer the collector's call

Location: Missouri

I began receiving calls to update financial/billing information for a fitness membership. At first, I ignored the calls because I didn't have a fitness obligation. Well, blocking and ignoring the calls didn't work. I answered and spoke with several reps, hoping to resolve the issue and explain that I'd never had a membership. I asked for information on the party and how they got my number. In the messages, they never mentioned my name; I questioned the validity of the call and never disclosed my information, as they weren't forthcoming either. After more calls, I called to speak with the person leaving the message (AI voice). Anyway, I finally spoke with a supervisor and went through the entire problem, and they were unwilling to disclose anything other than the phone number tied to the account. (for context, they were the billing dept) I didn't provide my identity and advised them they were calling the wrong person. I was being as invasive as they were was assured that I wouldn't be contacted again, and the issue was resolved. I should have known better than that because I'm getting calls from the collection agency. I'll admit I hadn't done any research on the fitness membership until the collection calls; I discovered the gym is in Oregon! WTH, I've NEVER lived in or visited Oregon. Apparently, the collection agency didn't do its due diligence, since they have access to everything about someone. I've filed complaints and posted reviews for each entity involved, and I want a resolution before they foolishly attach it to my credit file. What would be the best thing to do?

Old Scam

I thought more about this situation, getting ppl to pay to talk or view photos on dating sites. I've been chatting with someone, and I discovered our location and brought it up as an issue. Anyway, we continued to get to know each other. I mentioned how expensive it was to chat on the site and provided my contact information, and he asked what he should do with it, which I found strange. I'm interested in what others think, and if you are paying to communicate on the app, are they getting something as compensation?
