I’m an adult learning the piano. I played guitar and trumpet for a while so can read music and have an ok grasp on music theory.

As a young kid I learnt solfege (from sound of music I think), and it’s stuck with me forever. When just listening to music, I’ll be always following along to the melody with solfege in my head.

But, I’ve been stuck in some songs. Until now, I think of c as do, so i struggle with songs that aren’t in C major. But now ive done research into movable do solfege and want to progress down this path.

I’ve got a good ear I think and a good memory so I can hear and remember a melody in my head quite well in solfege, so I think it might be useful for me to progress with following along in my head with movable do solfege whilst playing songs.

I understand the concept, so I’m not seeking any technical answers, I’m just wondering if following along with the movable solfege method is actually good for an adult, or if I should not progress down this path?

I want to try a short 3 day juice fast for the first time.

I have 7 and 9yo kids and we have a meal together each night. I think I’m going to struggle with them eating delicious hot meals and me sitting with my sad juice.

How have others dealt with this? I don’t want to lock myself away at meal time as it’s important family time with us..

I’m considering a camper for my next Japan trip.

It will just be me for around 10 days.

Most likely Hokkaido or Morioka but the point of renting a van is to stay mobile and follow the snow.

I don’t plan to cook or shower in the van (I’ll use onsens and restaurants), but I do need a basic portable toilet (just to pee at night as I get up each night).

Has anyone got any recommendations on who to use and where to stay?

How do I find out where I can stay? I mean, ideally I’d stay in or near the carpark of the resort I plan to ski that day, but do ski resorts allow that? I know some of them have Onsens close to the actual resort themselves.

Are there any car companies that are flexible about extending your booking at short notice?

I will have a car in Hokkaido and plan to go to Honshu afterwards. I want to make a car hire booking that is easy to extend in the case that the conditions aren’t great in Honshu.

Does anyone have experience with this and can recommend a car hire company?

I took a ski trip in February where I was fortunate to have epic powder conditions (timed it for a storm). Now, I just can’t stop thinking about next season.

What do you do during the off season? Have you found an activity that is as enjoyable? do you just live in anticipation? Or do you manage to just switch off the anticipation until your again?

I do enjoy other hobbies. I surf and mountain biking ride, which are both quite fun. But unless I’m surfing Indo like conditions, it just doesn’t compare.

I used to paraglide and kitesurf a lot, but conditions are pretty fickle where I live.

It’s not like I’m miserable. I love being with my wife and kids and we do great things together, but I honestly can’t get skiing powder off my mind most of the time.

How do you switch off the yearning, so you can better enjoy the moments you’re in?
