Grizzly or large (brown) black bear?

Grizzly or large (brown) black bear?

Captured this photo on my camera in Lamar Valley around 5:30AM yesterday. Blurry bc this is a pic of the camera screen. Given its sheer size, color, visible bump, and gait (wobbly looking), the ~ 8 people who saw this all went with grizzly. Hopefully we were right ???

EDIT: Thanks for all the comments! So happy to hear the consensus it was a grizzly! We ended up seeing 2 more grizzlies over the next two days, including one eating a bison in Lamar Valley! 9 bears in total!

Help: My rescue pup is on a mission to hurt herself

My partner and I adopted a dog in January 2025. She has been an amazing additional to our family, but we always knew we wanted her to eventually have a sibling. In May 2026, we finally made the decision and foster failed a second rescue dog!

Our two girls are amazing. We love them so much. They both have anxieties and “quirks” that make them a bit of a challenge, but they love each other and are overall very manageable for my partner and I.

However…our newer addition has been on a mission to hurt herself the last 2 weeks and my partner and I head out of town this week for 12 days. We are extremely anxious about leaving her with sitters. About 10 days ago, she ate a wash cloth. We took her to the ER and she was okay. Two days later, she was with a dog walker and wouldn’t let her put on the harness. When she finally did get our pup out for a walk, she tried to escape her harness (we upgraded her harness to a multi-strap bc she did escape her original harness). Then, this past weekend, our new pup was at my family’s house while I was out for the evening, and she ran away. Bolted through the front door. They lost her for 45 min before finally finding her. Thankfully I have a tracker on her so I was able to find her on my phone!

We are leaving for vacation in 2 days for a 12-day trip. I am extremely anxious about leaving the dogs. We have two sitters booked that will split the time.
They both seem great, but our newer dog has caused so many issues in the last 2 weeks that I can’t help but feel like things will go wrong. I have a tracker on her, wrote out pages of notes and where to walk the dogs, have everything organized and planned and have some emergency contacts for the sitters just in case. Am I a bad person for not canceling this trip considering the circumstances?

JULY GLACIER ITINERARY: WHAT TO DOOOO

Hi all! My partner and I will be in Glacier National Park July 8-11. We are driving from Jackson WY on July 7 and staying in Coram MT for the nights of July 7-9 and St. Mary's Village on July 10.

We have Logan Pass shuttle tickets for July 9 so we plan to do the Highline Trail, Hidden Lake Overlook, and whatever else we can get in that day.

Our plan for July 10 is to drive from Coram to Many Glacier and hike in that area. We are staying in St. Mary's that night so it wouldn't be too much traveling after.

July 11 we have a morning boat ride from St. Mary Lake before we head to Bozeman.

My question is how to best use our first day, July 8? My current thoughts are:

  1. Scenic drive down GttSR day: This was my original plan because I don't know how many photos/how much stopping we will get with the shuttle on the 9. But I don't want to feel like I am repeating things too much either. Also, we are big hiking fans so maybe it's a waste to spend all day in the car?

  2. Two Medicine: I honestly don't know much about this area. Is it worth visiting? Is it way out of the way if we are staying in Coram that night (west glacier)?

  3. West glacier hikes or alternatives: Anything more "local" that we can do?

Thanks in advance!!!!

ID my foster fail

My partner and I were intending to only foster this sweet pup, but we failed and now we have two dogs!

She is ~9 months old and 30-ish pounds. Doesn’t seem like she’ll grow much. We know she had two sisters, at least one of which had a tan coat and more wire-y fur.

My partner and I (29M) are currently fostering an 8 month old dog. We have our own 2 year old dog. Our dog lovesss other dogs. She’s not a big fan of strangers or new places, but she loves making new dog friends.

In 2 months, my partner and I have a 12 day trip planned. We haven’t yet figured out what we are doing with our dog. Ideally, we’d want a sitter with a dog to watch her so she is comfortable. However, she’s also a bit of a “flight risk” when we are gone. She’s a former hunting dog and extremely fast. Because she’s skittish around new people, leaving her with a sitter can be stressful.

We’re fostering this second dog now and she gets along really well with our dog. She’s also a bit nervous in new situations, but nowhere near as bad as our dog was when we first adopted her. We love our foster and she really is the perfect match for our resident dog. Similar size, playfulness, and seem to get along really well.

We are considering foster failing. In our minds, this might actually help with figuring out our sitter plans in 2 months. We have been considering a second dog since the day we adopted our first 1.5 years ago. We could have someone stay in our place with our two dogs so our skittish one feels safer and has a friend. But, of course, two months is not far away and we are a bit concerned that we’ll adopt our foster dog and make it more difficult before our trip. Any thoughts or advice???
