Old EL Pics

Hey, all.

By any chance, does anyone have a picture of the old Video 2 Go in Frandor that shows more of the building's outside facade than what is currently available through Google images?

I like to make pictures of buildings in clay. I've made a Tasty Twist (old location) and a Nip 'N Sip. I don't like here anymore, but I grew up in EL and I'm 40. What can I say but that I'm another nostalgic Millennial? I'd like to expand my EL/Mid-Michigan clay pieces of places that meant a lot to me.

If anyone knows of a resource that has, like, archival photos of the city and can share it, I'd appreciate it!

Elementary School Library Structures

Hello all!

I'm about to finish my third year as an elementary school librarian. We're PK-5.

The basic structure of how I see classes is that I schedule them at the start of the year, avoiding their lunch and their preps. Due to the amount of classes in the school, it works out that I see every class for 45 minutes once every two weeks, and there are a few "open access" periods that are available for students to return and check out if they were absent, or for teachers to sign up for if they need to reschedule.

It's the way it's been done at this school for years and years and years so when I came in I went along with it because what did I know?

Anyway, I don't find it a very satisfying system because it makes it difficult to create lessons that actually build on anything. Two weeks is a long time! So it's a kind of standard read-aloud, activity, circulate situation. I did a design project with some classes this past year that was fun, but again, because of the schedule (and lots of cancellations due to testing and field trips) it still left a lot to be desired.

Anyway, TL;DR: If you are an elementary school librarian, how do you run/program your library? Are you fixed? Are you flexible? What does that flexibility look like? How do you balance learning in the library and having time for circulation? Do you have more casual open access for things like lunch clubs or independent reading? I'm so curious to know what else is out there in elementary programming!

DVD Borrow in the Neighborhood?

Hello, Park Slopers! I come with a random ask:

Is there anyone here who happens to have a DVD of the movie "Contact" in their old-school analog library? Who would also let me borrow it?

I'm reading the book and want to watch the movie, but I don't want to pay to watch it on streaming, I can't find it in the BPL's DVD catalog, and I'm really running out of space for quick eBay buys I have made already this year for similar reasons.

God, I miss video rental stores.

Court Origin Jersey

I was at the game last night (let's goooooo!) and they had that ad with DJ Ria talking about getting the jerseys and she said that they were "limited". Now, I popped out of my seat and went to check out the pop up (no jerseys) and then went to Fanatics and I was unable to reconcile standing in that long-ass Fanatics line because I was there to actually watch the game AND every time I've been in the store during a game I get overwhelmed and feel claustrophobic.

Am I screwed? I've been waiting for the origins jersey to be released. I gotta represent my French Chaos Queen and I want it to be in this jersey!
