talking to myself during the test

i found that verbalising my steps out loud increases my scores significantly somehow 😭

i do whisper but i don’t wanna be annoying asf on exam day by whispering to myself for every question, incase i distract the people around me but saying it in my head doesn’t have the same effect

should i just do it anyway, every man for himself 🫣🫣 but i feel bad

should i even be considering medicine

To preface I’ve always wanted to do dentistry it’s been my dream career for so long. I love everything about it. but it seems like the competition is getting worse every year. This is my fourth time applying and my ucat scores aren’t going amazingly I’m not sure whether to give up on my dentistry dream and apply to medicine instead I’m averaging 1800 on the ucat and I’m aiming for 2200 my exam is in two weeks.

I’m worried about the F1 doctor strikes and the unemployment rates also I’m not sure if I’d be okay with being dealing with life or death situations. that’s also I prefer dentistry the stakes seem a bit lower. it seems like a lot of mental energy required

I’m also quite unsure about the worklife balance. I think I’d want to work in a GP. I believe I’ve heard that’s quite competitive to get into. I just genuinely don’t know what else to do optometry? Law? I have no clue to be completely honest I’m picking medicine because it seems like the closest dentistry and the UCAT requirements are lower, but I’m not sure that’s a good enough reason.

I’d appreciate any brutally honest insight so that I know what I’m getting into

how is everyone getting such a higher ucat this year?

i know that inflation is a thing but what caused the deciles to shoot up so much in 2025? it feels like now everyone is aiming for 2300 which is insane when you think about it. when i first took my ucat in 2024 2900/3600 was an insane score but scaled to now that would be 2000 which is just average almost.

is it because AR was removed? so people have more time to focus on the other 3 subsections?

i’ve been grinding QR practise but i can’t seem to get above 24/36, i understand the maths when reviewing but i dont have enough time during the actual test, i have been triaging but clearly thats not enough does anyone have any advice?

aiming for 2250 but i’m so far from it rn

does anyone have any advice?? i esp struggling with QR as u can tell 😭

my exam is in 13 days, but ill probably push it back, i’ve been revising 2-5 hours on average everyday for 2 weeks so far

im a 2nd time ucat taker so i know my strengths/weaknesses but it feels like my practise isn’t paying off, i do so much better in the mini mocks for some reason

how to get better at venn diagrams?

realised i lost 4 marks in my recent DM mini mock on venn diagrams alone, my problem is they just take me soo much time so i estimate the answer, but clearly that isn’t working for me, does anyone have any tips on getting faster? is it just brute forcing practise?

finally improving in decision making 😩

literally got 17/47 in my last mock but somehow managed to get my highest dm score yet, all from changing up my order and not doing logic puzzles last cuz i realised i can do the easier ones quickly,

still need to work on interpreting info and venn diagrams 💔

improving at these Decision Making probability questions

i was just wondering if anyone had advice for these kinds of probability questions, i’ve never gotten a single one of these right

any videos to watch? resources to go over? tips or tricks?? i’d really appreciate it, thank you 💗💗

logic puzzles

ik everyone says to skip them bc they take too much time but that’s 6 free marks, i find them quite fun and while doing timed i can get 3/5 accuracy in 5 mins, should i also skip or should i keep practising them timed until i can get 5/5 accuracy?

i find probability and venn harder bc im bad at maths even tho everyone says to focus on those, im practising those too but i find i score higher on logic puzzles usually anyways

does anyone have any tips on how to do these ratio questions quicker?

the ratio is 61:87 btw !

they’re a massive time sink for me cuz it takes me ages to work out the ratio, but i do it the gcse way and surely there’s a quicker way? does anyone know any shortcuts?

what should i trust medentry or medify 😭

i ended up buying both and now i’m so confused VR on medify is sm harder but DM is easier, QR on medify i haven’t even tried bc im scared 😭

do you still practise your strong sections with limited time?

i only have 19 days until my ucat; i can get 31/44 in VR with basc no effort but my QR is horror

idk if i should dedicate more time to VR, bc ive heard people say to focus on ur strong sections, to hopefully start scoring 35-6/44 or if i should just focus most of my time on QR instead because im struggling even untimed rn, my accuracy isn’t great and im relearning gcse maths after 4 years, im averaging 14/36 😭

my DM is mid but ive been working on it too, i have no idea how much i should try aiming for, i struggle the most w probability and interpreting info graph questions (i love being bad at maths 💗)

rn i only do VR in mocks; i dont do any timed practise or mini subset mocks should i keep this up?

20 days left until my ucat should i get medify?

i used both medify + medentry last time i took the ucat but this time i only got medentry, ive heard people saying that it’s easier than the acc test and not representative so im a bit worried now that it’ll overinflate my confidence.

should i get medify asw now? or is it not worth it because i dont rly have enough time?

i completely forgot how the questions looked when i last did my ucat bc it was 2 years ago so i honestly dont remember if what im doing rn is similar

i’m especially worried that the QR in the actual ucat will be harder because im already struggling, id rather over prepare than underprepare

1600 -> 2300 in 20 days? too ambitious?

i’d like to do my ucat ideally before results day so i can go through clearing if it doesn’t go to plan as idk if im taking another gap year or not, it all depends on my ucat.

my weakest is QR averaging 15/36 DM is 25/46 usually and VR im not as worried about 31/44

last time i did the ucat i got
740 VR
670 DM
610 QR

id appreciate any tips on qr and dm especially !! i was really strong at syllogisms last time i did my ucat but idk why ive forgotten everything somehow that’s where im losing the most marks on DM, QR icl a lot of the maths ive just forgotten so im doing untimed practise to get my accuracy back up but i find maths harder in general

i’ve done 5 sets now and i have the same combination of marks in every one, id appreciate any advice, i especially struggle with the harder syllogisms
