One benefit working in a male dominated industry… it’s so easy to outshine the other male apprentices. Can’t count how many times my foremen tell me that they are impressed because I
- ask questions pertaining to the work
- am not arrogant
- am not ignorant of my arrogance
- don‘t take out my phone during work
- pay attention
- ask questions and don’t assume

All of these traits are extremely basic and essential for being a good worker in any industry. I’m surprised that my foremen are surprised by my work ethic. Makes me wonder how much my male counterparts get away with…

Hello! I put creatine in my overnight oats to prep for two days of lunch for work. I have seen online that it will become creatinine which is a waste material. Should I throw my meal out because now it is harmful? Thanks for the help.

How to deal with the physicality?

I’m a smaller guy, so I end up straining my self a lot, overcompensating on certain muscles over and over again, and it’s just been a few years but pain and tension in my body is almost getting unbearable.

How do you guy protect your body from strain and tension?

Please genuine advice.

Also, I already don’t drink, I pack my own fairly healthy lunches, and I do light cardio exercise.

Why is 290 at a standstill before it’s even 5am?

Anybody got intel on why traffic has been at a standstill since before 5am this morning? 290 has been completely clogged up. What are chicago drivers doing at 4am?

Also why the cops shutting down the whole highway?

Edit: It was a 4-car accident which led to the cops blocking off the highway and having everyone exit on Ashland.

I’m working with a real ass.

Working with this foreman who does nothing but talk shit about other guys and tell me to quit every time I don’t do something perfectly (1st year apprentice).

But the crazy thing is, when he is talking to the guys he just called a “bitch” previously, he’s respectful and “thank you sir, no problem sir”.

Just tired of insecure men who only have a facade.

What are the explosion sounds going on in Pilsen right now?

It’s happened three times now where an explosion in the distance goes off and then another one closer to me goes off. I can see the light flash as the explosion sounds through my window but I’m not sure how far away it is. It’s definitely close enough to be in the vicinity.

In addition, it doesn’t look like fireworks at all. It’s just an explosion.

“Communication is key!”

I am in my first month on the job and I love how these men and company guys all keep telling me, “Communication is everything, communicate, communicate.” And then when I ask questions they don’t answer or question why I’m asking that, they don’t proactively communicate anything and wait for me to fuck up before they yell at me, we are supposed to email and text our PMs about jobs and they can’t spell…

I’ve never been surrounded by folks so bad at communicating!

In light of the yesterday’s car accident, what can we do as a city to protect bikers and scooter riders?

Yesterday, a 35-year-old man was hit by a car door, which led him to being run over by another car and dying. This was in 32nd and Halsted. The driver stayed at the scene and did not flee. And this case is not an outlier. I’ve personally been in a hit and run with a car while biking.

My question is, what can we do as constituents, neighbors, workers, and commuters, to protect bikers and scooter riders?

What can we do to protect bikers in a car-dominant society? How can we encourage more public transportation such as the trains, buses, walking, and biking.

Chicago bikers deserve to be in a city built for us.

Edit: I didn’t know the name of the victim. Rest in peace, Riley O’Neil.

Edit: I need some non-Americans to help the small-minded, short-sighted Americans to be educated how other cities provide as much infrastructure for pedestrians and bikes as they do for cars. Because the delusions, denial, and ignorance is leaving be bewildered.

Questions about cash value life insurance…!

Hello, I was put on to a cash value life insurance plan in December. It’s $250/month for $300,000 and how the agent sold it to me was that she said I don’t ever really lose any money and that I can use what I put into the account in the future for funds for housing, a financial goal, etc. Now, I’m seeing online that it isn’t effective and is a scam. Should I back out of it and how? Or should I stick it through for a year and see how it goes.

The reviews are contradicting… Does the Chase ATM on 10S Dearborn operate 24/7?

Hello! This is slightly urgent. Does the Chase ATM on 10S Dearborn operate 24/7? I googled it and there are some saying it’s closed and only for employees and some say it’s open to the public. I’m not able to go tonight but need cash in the morning before 6am. I would like to avoid paying a fee at another ATM. Please let me know if anyone knows!

I entered via 90/94 and it was barely moving I exited at the closest exit about 20 minutes later… What happened on 290 going West?

Does anyone know what happened? Cars were driving on both shoulders, everyone was at a standstill. I assumed it was a crash but it wasn’t moving at all. I decided to exit at the nearest exit but it took forever to get there too. Cars were entering the highway and reversing out of the entrance lane…

It’s normal to see traffic on a Saturday night but I’ve never seen cars turn around or reverse out of highway entrances?!

Edit: Friend just told me that all 4 lanes were closed and directed to exit in Damen.

My fucking god you people who don’t know how to have basic human etiquette. If you’re gonna be hacking and sneezing on a flight, wear a fucking mask. It’s not that hard to be considerate.
