Tiller Handle Kill Switch Button

Tiller Handle Kill Switch Button

noticed last evening my kill switch button wasnt working.. took a peek and noticed my black wire is split in two. the kill cord is still functioning but im more worried about my electric started button also failing. I’m assuming the red and yellow wires (also looking pretty bad) control the electric start, this is still working fine. question I have, if by chance I’m really dumb and take the boat out again before I can fix the black wire and worse case the red and yellow split, could I still atart the boat with the pull start?

First Fish Finder… powering??

I’m very new to the world of boat electronics and I bought a hummingbird piranhamax 4 the other day. Now currently on my boat (Alumacraft Jon boat) I’ve got a Mercury 15 outboard with electric start. I’ve got my starter battery in one of those Newport battery boxes with the fuses built into the box…

so my question is, I know the fish finder doesn’t draw much power so can I just hook the fish finder up to my battery box too? Power the finder off my starter battery?

Thanks!

1996 Mercury 2 Stoke without a Battery??

Hello outboard experts! New jonboat owner here with a sweet 1996 Mercury electric 2 stroke. I’ve been running my skiff on the river for trout, and so far I’ve been using a battery to start the motor but as time goes on I’m wondering if I can just forgo the battery, just pull start to lighten my load. I’ve looked around online and seems like it’s totally possible, Just tape off the connectors and should be good? when I was a kid our zodiac never had a battery in it, just the tank and the motor. thanks for any tips and help!

1959 Evinrude Sportwin 15

I got this motor from a guy at work today. it was a barn find, he knew I’m into boats so gave it to me. pulled the crank and its got compression, so it’s good to restore and get back on the water. does anyone have any experience with getting an Evinrude motor of this age back on the water? I’m a Mercury guy and immediately noticed the fuel line was gonna be different haha I have no experience with any older motors but I’m keen to learn. I figure just some TLC and she’ll be throwing wake again! any tips or advice?

EDIT- it’s an Evinrude Sportwin 10 HP, not 15. my bad.

The PLOT THICKENS!! From the motor manual..

this is from the 1996 Mercury 15 ELH manual… I may be like spot on, from the illustration and my picture they look pretty similar. maybe the shop guy actually did his homework hahaha I guess I’m gonna run it as is. like I said I haven’t had any issues and it’s been running at 18 mph with two adults, cooler, anchor, tank, battery and fishing gear. alone it’s way fast! it’s on an alumacraft 1436. here’s a video of it running, maybe the wake can tell a tale? I’ve got a series on the boat build if anyone has tips! thanks everyone!!

What can I do here? Motor too long..

here’s the deal, I’m a first time boat owner.. haha pretty much sums it up, but I bought the Jon boat and then found a motor. The guy that i got the motor from put the black wood “transom” on it to get take some height away. ive run the boat as it is 3 days at a lake, it cruises along fine I didn’t notice anything weird or have any issues, but I saw a previous post and now I’ve learned that mine isn’t mounted ideally.. I want to run this boat in rivers and have the cav plate at the proper height. can I just cut a new board or piece of aluminum plate that’s just an or so taller to make the cav plate flush with the hull? doing this as cheaply (but safely) as possibl. thanks everyone!! yall have been helpful!

Motor mount height?

how does this look? got this boat 2 weeks ago and motor mounted on last week. Its my first boat and I’m learning a lot here.. I ran the boat over the weekend and feels great! I saw another post earlier asking about motor height and it got me thinking… is this good? from what I’ve read I know I’m at least close.
