Found an OG bottle of Huy Fong. Comparison and Taste Test
Was cleaning out my pantry and found on the back corner an unopened bottle of OG Huy Fong (best before Dec 2024)
Next to a new bottle, it's obviously much darker and also more viscous. The new Huy Fong is a lighter more orange red, and the sauce is thinner.
Makes sense when looking at the ingredients, used to be a higher concentration of chillies (83% vs 81%). Looks like xanthan gum is also replaced with metabisulfite.
Taste test: brought me back to why I originally fell in love with the sauce. It was so much richer and complex, and a little bit hotter too. The new sauce pales in comparison, like a facsimile of what it used to be.
Will be treasuring this bottle, as we couldn't get Underwood Ranch here in Australia
