Airplane flying around with a banner
Three times in the past few days, I have noticed a small plane flying around towing a banner, but for some reason the banner is only visible from one side, and it's never the side that I'm on. Reading backwards, it looks like it says "DON'T HIRE (something)" but I can't tell for sure. I'm just curious, because somebody must be paying $$$ to keep that thing in the air for so long! (Also, just a suggestion: if you ever want to fly a plane with a banner, please have a banner printed that people on both sides can read.)
Statewise Energy door to door
A young guy wearing a Statewise Energy T-shirt just came to our door. I usually don't even respond if I see someone I don't know through the peephole, but my husband (who works from home on Mondays) answered the door. The salesperson seemed to imply he was working with PG&E and wanted to see our gas bill. It seemed suspicious, and fortunately, I Googled it and found a bunch of Reddit posts from other Bay Area cities. I guess it's Alameda's turn now. Beware—just say "no thanks" and close the door! Don't show them your bill!

Seth Meyers’ Lindsey Graham ‘Mee-Maw’ Bit, We’ll Miss You Most of All
LateNighter covers the real tragedy of Lindsey Graham's death, along with a nine-minute compilation of Mee-Maw's greatest hits. (I know a supercut was already posted here, but this one's a little different.)

Foodborne parasitic infection outbreak and HF?
I keep seeing articles like this one about a current outbreak of Cyclosporiasis: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-cyclosporiasis-outbreak
Apparently some of the main culprits are green onions and cilantro, both of which I get regularly from HF. The article says "The only sure-fire way to avoid it: cooking vegetables. Cyclospora die at 158 degrees Fahrenheit." Just curious if anyone is considering changing their meal selections based on this, or am I being overly paranoid? I live in CA but my boxes come from Arizona or Texas, and of course the produce comes from all over. I usually get 2 vegetarian meals every week, so it seems like my risk is higher than it would be if I was getting meat & potatoes.
Essay in a book about children being horrified by a Christmas card drawn by mouth artist
I remember reading an essay in a book—it may have been by David Sedaris or John Waters, but I've been unable to find it—where the author recalls a scene from his childhood. His family used to receive "creepy" Christmas cards from a relative every year. One year, the card turned up and the author and his sibling were amazed at how normal it seemed. Then he turned it over and saw that the picture on the card was drawn by a paraplegic who drew by holding the pencils or brushes in their mouth. I thought it might have been "Why I Love Christmas" from Waters' collection "Crackpot," but that doesn't appear to be the case. Maybe I'm wrong and it's by a totally different author?
A month of reruns
Ugh. Reruns start next week and continue through JULY 13. I'll really have to savor tomorrow's Corrections.
They will be showing some slightly older broadcasts next week:

6/23/26 Jodie Foster, Simu Liu (R 1/7/26)
6/24/26 Alan Cumming, Ali Larter (R 1/14/26)
6/25/26 Joel McHale, Alison Oliver (R 1/29/26)
Did anyone else get this weird postcard?
I just got this in the mail. It was addressed to me and has a return address of "Alameda City Hall, 1215 Lincoln Ave." (which is the address of Domino's Pizza, NOT City Hall). On the back, it says that on June 15, "Father Barish will bless the Silver Egg at St. Donovan's Epispocal (sic) Church, before it is presented to Officer Bradley. Please Join Us - Blessing at 3 PM." Not surprisingly, "Father Barish" and "St. Donovan's" appear to be fake as well. I'm so confused and have no idea what this could be about. Is it some kind of marketing stunt, and if so, what on earth for?
Lynn Cullen (former host of The Pennsylvania Game) ROASTS JJHO!
I saw this on the JJHO Instagram feed today and it's HILARIOUS. Lynn Cullen, the former host of The Pennsylvania Game (see: Episode 7743, "Trivial Law-Suit"), responds to the episode in which she's prominently mentioned. The part about JJHO starts about 52 minutes into the video. Basically, she thinks it's "boring," even though HER video is just as long! "[The video] was over an hour long, and I thought, fuck this!" and "I found it incredibly boring, except for the parts where they were raving about me."
This woman is a legend, and I think she NEEDS to be a guest on JJHO. Obviously she won't want to be a guest bailiff on a regular episode because it would be "too long" and "incredibly boring," but how about having her as a guest on a special Swift Justice docket-clearing ep? Listen to how she comes after the person who asked Judge Hodgman about forks in the dishwasher (tines up or tines down). She has OPINIONS!!!
Weekly email
Every Monday, I used to get an email from Fitbit with my stats from the previous week. Of course, that didn't come today. Pretty bummed at the loss of yet another feature I enjoyed.
20-year-old gift certificate?
I was tasked with cleaning out a storage unit belonging to my father-in-law, who moved across the country and left a bit of a mess behind. One of the things I found was a $100 gift certificate to a local seafood restaurant. It is dated 2006, but doesn't have an expiration date. CA law states that gift certificates don't expire. The restaurant is still around (it's Scott's in Jack London Square—I realize that's Oakland, but I'm not a member of that subreddit, and Scott's just came up in the Alameda seafood restaurant thread, so I figured I'd give it a whirl here).
Would it be a jerk move to try to use it? I thought about contacting them, but they might feel obligated to say yes because of the law. I don't know anything about the circumstances under which he received it, and am sure he wouldn't remember if I asked him.
Clearing the Docket with Heated Rivalry Author Rachel Reid
Fun episode, and so cool to see Jesse and the Judge in the same room! I didn't think I'd have any interest in "Heated Rivalry," but the hype got to me and I finally watched it and absolutely loved it.
Though I'm a little disappointed that John Hodgman is no longer referring to his daughter (who is a whole human being in her whole right) as Hodgmina. I will always think of her that way.
Mayoral/CC candidates?
I've seen a few Tracy Jensen for Mayor signs around town. It seems unusually early for local campaign signs, but it made me wonder who else might be running for Mayor and City Council. We're not going to see the return of Trish, are we?
https://latenighter.com/news/snl-uk-renewal-status-season-2/
With two episodes left to air in its freshman run, Saturday Night Live UK‘s future is uncertain—at least to hear lead producer James Longman tell it... by the eight-episode series’ midway point, viewership had waned at least 36%, to 503K (in Live+7 with repeats, per Deadline).
In a new interview with IndieWire, lead producer Longman shared little insight into the show’s renewal prospects . “Definitely not for sure,” he said. “But I stay away from these discussions, I’m just trying to make a funny show.”
I'm an American fan of British comedy and I absolutely adore this show, which I watch on Peacock as soon as it drops. I will be crushed if it doesn't get renewed!
