Alternate route from Boulder to Las Vegas

I need to travel from Boulder to Las Vegas on Sunday and I'm watching the weather carefully. We came in on Route 12, which was incredibly scenic, but the hogback section scared the crap out of me in good weather. The northern route through Torrey via 12 - 24 - 62 is about 40 min. longer -- is it significantly safer in bad weather?

Ascending from The Tunnel

This is a video of the elevator ride up from The Tunnel at the Niagara Parks Power Station. Much of the power station infrastructure is below the surface and extends 180 feet underground. The elevator cab is glass and that allows you to get a glimpse of the hidden levels. The tunnel itself is 2,200 feet (0.4 miles) long and served as the water discharge after power generation. The power station is a bit of a walk from Table Rock and the tunnel brings you back in that direction to a viewpoint past the welcome centre. The video is slowed to 80%.

2018 Forester stock crossbar disaster narrowly averted

I was adjusting the stock crossbars on my 2018 Forester and, while tightening down the rear, the bottom clamp just fell off one side. I was using a 1/4" ratchet and being careful not to overtighten. I checked the other side and was able to push off the bottom bracket. After removing both crossbars, I found that, on the rear only, the press-fit threaded insert had migrated from the bottom clamp to the top, so tightening was accomplishing nothing. This could have been a disaster with two new kayaks on top.

Has anyone seen this failure before? I could press out the insert and epoxy it into the bottom clamp, but I'm going to bite the bullet and replace it with a Yakima setup.

In the photo, the front bar and clamp is on top and the rear is on the bottom.

I was awed by a sawdust pile in Vermont and a gravel pile in New Hampshire. Are there any other piles I can see from New England hiking trails? I need at least one more to start a Magnificent Mounds list, at which point visiting piles will blow up in popularity, so see them now before the Instagrammers move in. In order to make the list, you have to be able to touch the pile and, better yet, climb it. You can't just view it from a distance, which disqualifies such pretenders as the asbestos tailings near Belvedere on the Long Trail.

"On Thursday morning, April 23rd, around 2:09am, a vehicle drove onto the baseball/softball fields at Jericho [Vermont] Elementary School and did donuts, leaving significant ruts across two of our fields. Security camera footage suggests the vehicle may have been a Subaru."

I think it's a WRX but I'll leave it you you experts. Subarus are as common as maple trees in Vermont, but IDing the car may help narrow it down because it was more than likely someone who lives in this small town. Thanks!
