Cramps at 12 weeks, but no period?

Hi all! I’ve been EPing basically since my LO was born. I’m at 12 weeks postpartum, and I’ve started to have weird period-like cramps for a few days, but I don’t have my period. Could this be caused by the hormonal change that happens around this time? Or maybe I should see a doctor?

Sorry if this isn’t the right sub for this—I wasn’t sure which one is appropriate.

Blood pressure back up at 12 weeks pp?!

Hi all, so I had my 2nd experience with postpartum preeclampsia with severe features in April (happened with my first and second pregnancy). I gave birth April 8th, then developed postpartum preeclampsia. I was on Procardia for about 5 weeks, and then my blood pressure appeared to normalize off my meds and I stopped checking my blood pressure.

I went to urgent care for a rash today, and much to my surprise, my BP was 150/100. I was shocked. Normally my blood pressure is borderline low. Has anyone else had their blood pressure go back to normal and then jump right back up again?

This is so devastating for me. I thought I was past this.

Freezer door cracked open overnight

My parents were recently visiting and my mom accidentally left the freezer cracked open all night—probably at least 12 hours. It started making a low humming noise much of the time. Since then, it seems like maybe it hasn’t been properly maintaining the temperature in the fridge. That’s my concern because we have breastmilk in there.

We unplugged it to defrost, but I’m wondering what the odds are that it will work once I plug it back in. Is there a way to know if it’s completely wrecked from there without having to wait for it to completely thaw, then plug it back in for 12 hours?

Can spit up shoot out several inches?

My baby has always been a happy spitter. Sometimes, though, her spit up shoots out several inches a bit more forcefully. Is this projectile vomiting? She doesn’t seem distressed and it’s not a ton of volume. It is different than the usual spit ups, though.

Slit in Spectra duckbill valves

I am a little confused about the duckbill valves. I know to replace them frequently. I’ve noticed that the Maymom replacement valves seems to be completely closed at the tip (no slivers of light shine through unless you squeeze the tip). The Spectra brand ones all seem to have a tiny little slit in them—even when I’m not squeezing them. Is this normal? Typically when I see that it isn’t completely closed, I replace them. Is this wrong?

Experiences on HA formula?

I’ve been EPing for my LO, and it’s really hard to keep up my supply, leading to some mental health struggles. I’d really like to switch to formula, but I’m not sure what to expect from a HA formula. It looks so thin, and I’ve read that they digest really quickly. Right now, my LO is a great sleeper, and that is so important for my mental health. Have you all had issues with your baby being able to sleep for long stretches of time on a HA formula?

Rash after starting new formulas

My LO is 7 weeks old. I’ve been pumping, and she’s been getting mostly breastmilk. I’ve been attempting to transition her for formula for my mental health. She has had small amount of formula since birth (2-4 oz per day) and been fine. We started increasing formula intake. We did Enfamil Neuropro. After about 4 days of increasing the amount of formula (got up to 8 oz per day), she developed a full body rash. We switched to soy formula and it went away. However, once she was on soy for about 4 days (and up to 8 oz), it looks like a similar rash is appearing again on her chest.

Is there any way this isn’t a protein allergy to CMP and soy? She’s tolerated dairy and soy in my breastmilk just fine, and her symptoms don’t start right away? I’m hoping to get into her PCP to talk about this, but she’s booked out really far, and my baby doesn’t seem distressed at all, so I don’t think I necessarily need to go to Urgent Care.

Able to tolerate breastmilk but not formula?

Are some babies with CMPA able to tolerate breastmilk from moms who eat dairy, but not tolerate formula? My baby has been doing well on pumped milk, but we started introducing formula, and she’s been getting a full body rash. When I stopped the formula, it went away.

If she didn’t have a rash from breastmilk, is a dairy-free diet necessary? Her only other symptom when on breastmilk is frequent spit ups and gas. She’s still gaining weight and doesn’t seem to be in pain. And frequent spits up and gas can just be normal newborn things.

Is the “magic number” supposed to be accurate before regulation? Or only after?

I’ve seen a lot of people post about the magic number; however, there’s also the recommendation to get in around 8ppd until you’ve regulated (unless I’m mistaken). Is the magic number just for after you’ve regulated?

I’m 6 weeks postpartum, and I have a high storage capacity. I’ve been doing 7ppd with one power pump. I’d love to drop down to 6. According to my magic number, I think I’d be able to keep my supply, but I’m wondering if it’s too soon. I don’t know if I’ve regulated yet. I know 6 weeks is on the early side.

Positive experiences?

Hi all! I’ve been combo feeding, and my baby is getting mostly breastmilk, at this point. Breastfeeding is currently tanking my mental health, and I’d really like to switch to EFF.

I’ve been feeling really anxious because I’ve been following this sub for weeks, and I see so many horror stories of people who really struggle to get their baby on a formula that works for them. I realize that there is likely some bias in who actually posts on this sub, but I’m wondering: are there people who decide to EFF and it just works out well right from the start? I don’t hear any of those stories, and I’m so scared that if I switch, my baby is going to struggle. I hoping this is just my anxiety getting the better of me.

Can people share some positive experiences switching to formula (or starting with formula right away)?

For those who don’t respond well to the Spectra, which pump do you use?

When I EPed for my first, I used the Medela Symphony, and it worked so well. This time, I’m using the Spectra S1, and I don’t respond as well to it. I have to constantly hand express to get ANYTHING out of my right breast. When I used the Symphony in the hospital, it wasn’t like this, so I think I just don’t respond well to this kind of pump.

For other people who don’t empty well with the Spectra, which pump actually worked best for you?

This sub is fantastic!

I guess this post doesn’t have much of a point other than to express how much I appreciate this sub. This sub got me through my first time EPing with my son 3 years ago, and I ended up having to EP this time around.

I’ve had a slight undersupply both times, and I just figured out today (after one year + 5 weeks EPing) that I have elastic nipples. Thanks to this sub, now I know some things that might help!

Thanks, everyone, for being part of this sub!

So, my left boob completely empties out in like 3 minutes. My right boob—on the other hand—is super stubborn. It takes FOREVER, and sometimes it seems like it doesn’t completely empty. This is especially the case if I go over 3 hours between pumps. This is a problem because my right boob is my hero boob, and I need that milk. Do you think taking sunflower lecithin might help it empty faster?

For those of you who were induced or had to deliver early, did your supply peak 4 weeks after the birth or later than that? I was induced a few weeks early, and I’m right at 4 weeks now. Im wondering if my supply is still likely to increase or if it will stay kind of similar to what I have now. I’ve been doing 8 ppd with 1 power pump, and my supply has been relatively stable for the last week. It would be nice if it would keep increasing a bit, but I really don’t have the energy to pump any more than I already am. I guess I’m just more curious than anything since I don’t think I’ll be adding in any more pumps to increase my supply.

Hi all! I’m at 3 weeks postpartum and I just took a cetirizine for my allergies. I’m instantly pumping a lot less milk (like one less ounce per pump, which is a lot for me as an under supplier). Has this happened to any of you? Will my milk come back after the effects of the medication wear off? I’m definitely panicking and feeling like such a piece of shit for taking that medication.
