Well now I know what ECC is. Probably not worth it to dump more money into another project just to build around the memory...
Eventually I'm gonna start spending actual money on this stuff but for now I'm being really frugal while I learn and experiment. I have Hermes running on a (free to me) 10+ year old Dell XPS, Debian, i7, 1TB, 8GB RAM, 1GB Radeon card. Nothing special but fun for my Linux projects, very secure, and is not my daily driver for tasks so if it completely fails then I'm fine. I have spent a whopping total of $1 on Gemini tokens thus far, but I have Gemini Pro free through work so I toyed with that a bit more.
I don't need to do anything powerful, but I did want to continue saving money by doing some locally hosted models. Obviously the current setup isn't gonna cut it even for some basic tasks. So I was looking at a 32GB memory upgrade for like $50. Is it even worth the $50? I could spend that money on some virtual hosting or maybe just find a better old PC for like $150? I just figure spending $50-100 to do some local stuff will be cheaper than spending on tokens, for now.
I am really just messing around making little apps, documents, business planning ideas, maybe some home automation. I'd probably like to do a bit more programming, but mostly just stuff for personal use, not full on development.
Edit to add: I thought it would be good to have tools available but I saw that Hermes has some limitations base on memory, as do the models.

The monologue with Leonardo DiCaprio was excellent and set the scene early for a great episode. I don't know who wrote the sketches, but every one Jonah was in was hilarious and he just nailed it. The one that I remembered getting some replay was the dinner with the boss sketch, but there were so many good ones.
Just curious about new features, capabilities, tools, anything I should try out. Feels heavier, hopefully I don't slowly crush this one over the course of a few years like I did my last one.
