Do you feel like your thesis is becoming something you didn't set out to write?

I know the thesis is meant to change over the course of the PhD and that it might end up drastically different from the initial proposal. That is the process.

But do you ever feel, based on the feedback you receive from supervisor(s), that you are end up writing something you never really wanted to write in the first place? How do you balance taking the feedback from a knowledgeable scholar with staying true to the project you want to write/create?

Edit: I should add that I’m doing a literature PhD so I’m not in a lab environment with PIs and other PhD students. The project is meant to be my own.

Tips for Powerpoint presentation?

I'm presenting at my first conference of my PhD journey in a month and I need to make a simple but effective PowerPoint. My subject is literature so I do not have any data/charts to use in slides. What advice would you give me?

Thank you!

Partner and I don’t take many photos together?

I’ve been with my partner for 1.5 years now and we’ve been talking about the partner visa (after I finish uni). We are both slightly selfie-phobic, so we don’t have a ton of pics together. Whenever we go sightseeing I do try to get one but sometimes I forget. I have about 30 of us so far (some with his mum too), and I’ll have accumulated more by the time we apply obviously, but say we double the amount to 60ish photos, will this be enough?

I understand it’s going to be university-dependent, but if you’re on (or were on) a student visa and needed extension(s) to finish your PhD, can you tell me about your experience?
